Jewelry Store in SDC?

Hello all,
Bit of an odd question, but for folks w/ some familiarity of Santiago--can anyone recommend a good jewelry store there? I know the region is famous for their silver, especially.
See: I am walking the Camino this summer and will be meeting my fiancee in Santiago at the conclusion. I am considering buying her a ring whilst there but have no idea where to look.
If anyone has any recommendations on quality (non-tourist-geared) jewelry stores, I would hugely appreciate it!!
Buen Camino,
Patrick

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
Two come to mind straight away.

1. back of the cathedral to "Jet workers square". the square is on two levels: so up the steps. there is a jewellers on the corner of the square.
2. I bought my wife a bracelet in a jeweller on Rua do Franco. this runs from the cathedral square to the South.

I am sure that other members will contribute many more suggestions.
Kind regards
Gyro

Hi Patrick,

There are several nice stores in old town Santiago. If you walk up and down the most famous street in old town (Rua de Villar) you will find at least 3 or 4 of them. By the way "Plaza de Platerias" (The silver square, see picture) is located next to the cathedral and is named after the jewelry stores that used to be in this square. I think there are at least two of them still there... You should not have a problem finding anything nice there :)

Hi Patrick,

I would love to hear your experiences, when you are back.
I'll walk the camino in fall with my girlfriend and I plan to propose to her on the way and to buy wedding rings in SDC. So any recommendations about a good jewelry store are definitely appreciated.

Cheers,
Sagi

Probably the best jewelry store in Santiago, and one of the most historic, is:

Joyeria Malde
R. del Villar, 21
Pl. Platerías, 3
15890 Santiago
Tfno. +34 981 58 14 22
http://www.malde.net

I had a client that bought a ruby encrusted Santiago cross there - beautiful!

Good luck and congrats!

A friend asked me to recommend a jewelry store in Santiago. I have bought some nice sterling and jet pieces in a jewelry store on the Rúa de Azibechería near the Cathedral side door, but I know my friend is looking for something more modern, this place was pretty traditional (as are all the places over on that row behind the cathedral, at least in my memory). Does anyone have a recommendation for a jewelry store selling silver and jet pieces in a a modern design? Surely there are young hip jewelers out there!
