The route between San Roman and Ferreira (Lugo to Melide leg of Primitivo)

Hi everyone! From the albergues in Ferreira (Ponte Ferreira and A Nave) we want to share with you this info, which we consider quite important for pilgrims walking the Primitivo after Lugo. It's in regard to the two possible routes between San Román de Retorta and Ferreira: the two routes diverge at the church of San Román, and meet again just about 50 metres before the Roman bridge of Ferreira.

In the blog entry we try to inform of the two possibilities, and the fact that the currently official and only maintained one is the "via romana".

Feel free to share your thoughts, please :)

Here's the link in English: http://www.ponteferreira.com/2016/0...nd-ferreira-the-so-called-via-romana/?lang=en (for Spanish, click here instead: http://www.ponteferreira.com/2016/0...an-roman-de-retorta-y-ferreira-la-via-romana/).

Thanks!,

Want to use luggage transfer on the final part of the Primitivo /Frances.

Have been recommended FONSATRANS as a better company, than using Correos.
Anyone used them and if so....how did you get a translation?

Thanks for helpful Info. Above.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
Google searches have not found a web-site for that company. Local 'pages' sites suggest it a transport company. No indication that they run a bag transfer service. Where did your recommendation come from?

Hi. Even though this is not the thread to talk about this, yes, FONSATRANS is a local company that transports pilgrims' backpacks from Fonsagrada on to Santiago. According to our experience with both them and Correos, we very much prefer them than Correos. Their web site is www.transportemochilas.com.

BTW, I just checked the rest of the web site, as I had never opened it before, and seen our albergue as a "colaborador". I did not even know that we were there as "colaborador", so don't want any one to believe that we have any economic interests in this company, ok? :) As with the rest of companies operating backpack transport along the different caminos, the albergues earn nothing from that at all! It is just a service we allow another company to do in our albergue for the pilgrim (storing the backpacks until the company/pilgrim picks them).

For those interested in all things Ancient Roman, the Camino between Lugo and Santiago is more or less on the line of the old Via Romana Lucus, Iria Flavia. Iria Flavia being Padrón. If you are aware when walking the route, it is relatively easy to see where the modern road or track follows the ancient line.

Some of us would insist that the Camino Francés joins the Primitivo in Melide. Not the other way round!!
The Primitivo was there first, following the old Roman road.

We just returned from the CP and used Correos for baggage transport from Tineo to SdC. It worked perfectly. Our luggage was always waiting for us as we arrived. €36 for one bag 10 days.
