Are there enough Albergues from the Porto to Santiago?

I did the Camino Frances in September 2016 and had no problem finding a bed for 26 days of walking from SJPDP to Finisterre but I was told by others doing Portugese route that there were not enough Albergues for them.

On the first stage wether you choose for the original route out of Porto. Or the coastal detour, there will be albergues(in Vairão or Vila do Conde)
The second is in São Pedro de Rates
Than several in Barcelinhos or Barcelos
Casa Fernanda in Vitorino. De Piāes
Ponte de Lima
Rubiães
Valença do Minho or 3 kms futher in Tui in Spain
O Porriño
Redondela
Pontevedra
Caldas de Reis
Teo a Casalonga
Santiago de Compostela
All in between or around 20 kms from each other

There are some more but these are the most common.

You didn't indicate where you were going to start the Camino Portuguese. Albertino has given good advice from Porto but if you start in Lisbon it becomes a little more complicated with some large distances between Albergues. There are numerous threads on this with some solutions to the long distances between stops.

From Porto there are lots - and some are lovely. The monasteries come to mind, no shortage. And lots of cafes/ bars too.

Hi there.
I walked from Lisbon to SdC back in May/June.
As mentioned previously, the distances between accommodation options on the Lisbon-Porto leg are much longer. Certainly much longer than we are used on the Camino Frances. But it is all doable and I know of some ladies who used a taxi and/or albergue hosts to pick them up if the days/distances were too long for them. Fair enough.

From Porto I followed the coastline up to Caminha and then up the river to Valenca/Tui. There are good accommodation options including albergues, youth hostels and small hostels all away along. You shouldn't have to book. The youth hostels are great, and they offer a pilgrims rate if you book direct.

The OP asked. "Are there enough albergues between Porto and Santiago" but I agree between Lisbon and Porto you'll have to improvise a little bit more.
However there exist great guides, to be downloaded here on the forum, written by very experienced forummembers like Laurie Reynolds-aka peregrina200-and Johnny Walker.
Also the guide of John Brierley is very handy to find your way.

The only time I had any problem between Porto and Santiago was in Redondela, there was no room in the albergue. But in just a few minutes three of us found an apartment to share just a few yards away. I think they are prepared for the overflow.

3 kms further on in Cessantes is refúxio de la Jérezana. Far better than the crowded smelly albergue in Redondela.
Everybody should avoid this municipal albergue and go on.. 20 minutes further away and far better.
