I have just heard about the camino and looking into possible routes to walk.
Hello Everyone,

Im pretty new on here so thought id ask for a little advice. I have just booked my flight to Porto (1st June) to spend 3 days with my partner before heading North on my own to begin my first ever camino on Monday 5th June.

I have been reading lots online and just wanted to advice to fellow pilgrims who have taken this journey. I have a time frame of around 3 weeks to do the full walk but not really in any rush and want to appreciate the little places that i stop in.

Any recommendations of places to explore/stay more then one night?

On average how much do people spend on the Camino?

I have pretty much booked cheap hostels on booking.com in fear of not being able to get a bed for the night upon my arrival in each place. Is this common?
I heard that once i hit Spain it becomes a lot busier.

Once reaching Santaigo i was thinking about walking to Finisterre after a couple of days resting and depending on budget/time.

I have created a map on google of my journey. Any tips regarding places to stay/eat - any places where its easy to become lost etc, churches, view points etc would all be really helpful.

Here is my map - https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewe...gHPZ8-AV-p16U&vomp=1&cid=mp&cv=C4lJwvjp4m4.en.

It is not yet complete but hoping to put things together by the end of this week.

Thanks for your help.

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.

Hi Beki,

You can make your caminho in 14 days easily from Porto.
I can not see your trip on google maps because you have to give permission to see it.
I do not know if you choose the central rute or the coastal.
On the coastal are not many places of interest to stay for a couple of days except for to rest.
Nice place is Barcelos and then you could take the bus or train to Braga which is a beautiful town with it's world famous church Bom Jesus do Monte. A must if you are around in the area. 18 kms from Barcelos on the caminho path is casa Fernanda
If you haven't been there to stay for the night you haven't been on the caminho Português ! Book allready now your bed to be sure you will have one . Fernanda speaks english tel. +351 914 589 521

Also a nice place to stay is Ponte de Lima but you can see it after your arrival there . It is 14 kms after Fernanda

Stay in Valença do Minho instead of Tui and enjoy one more night in Portugal before you cross the border to Spain .

Do not stay in Redondela but walk on for another 3 kms to Cessantes
Once you come to a big road Do not follow the waymarkers but turn right and after 100 meters at the right is o refúxio de la Jerézana, an albergue with a lovely atmosphere see their facebook page with the same name.

Pontevedra is a nice place but also you can see it after your arrival.

If you have the CJS guide or John Brierley's guide just phone ahead one ore two days and find your place in albergues and or hostals.
Bom caminho

Thank you too. We are also planning to walk on this coastal route from Porto. We will walk about a week out from Lisboa, get to Coimbra, and bus to Porto. I don't yet have a guide of the Portuguese, just looking at posts and blogs to get a sense of the route. Your comments are really helpful.

Sounds like your route will follow the route described in https://www.caminodesantiago.me/com...df-route-portugues-route-monacal-coastal.404/ - hope it can be helpful too

I would like to walk the river route in Tui next month. I can see on google maps exactly where it starts, but it seems a bit overgrown. Has anybody used this route this year or last year...
Hello, my friend of 50+ years and I are on our first Camino walk. We are looking for: 1) safe, comfortable hostels in Lisbon; 2) stages from Lisbon to Porto (via Tomar) in about 16 days...
Hi I have searched everywhere to see if there is a luggage service from Lisbon to Porto. I know there is from Porto to Santiago, but Lisbon ???. Thanks for any info.
