Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
I am confused. The photo was taken near Madrid. It looks familiar to me...I walked much of this route in 2016.

The GR signs are not confusing, as the French has a well mapped out GR system across France, Spain and Italy. If you know the parallel GR designation, in the absence of flechas amarillas, it is hard to get lost.

The sun angle makes sense for a Camino Madrid routing. The shadow falls to the southwest, meaning the sun, as usual, rose in the east (ish). So this is a morning photo.

About halfway between Madrid and Segovia, on the outskirts of Becerril de la Sierra, Av de Jose Antonio 119.

Red and White depicts the Border of Spain, I believe?
No, it's a pan-European marking system for long distance footpaths. There's another system called the E European long distance paths.

Sometimes they coincide with the various Caminos.

For instance the GR65 comes in from France to SdC; the E3 runs from the Black Sea to SdC and Sevilla/Cadiz (splits at Astorga)

So (in places) the CF = GR65 = E3.

We do a similar confusing thing with out motorways/autoroutes too!

I use the Viewranger app on my phone, it's a GPS system and you can download IGN maps for a small fee. You can then see exactly where you are on the route, its also got a great camera feature which lets you point at the landscape and it tells you the names of features in front of you. Its a great app and free to download.

Ideal pocket guides for during & after your Camino. Each weighs only 1.4 oz (40g)!

Thanks for that! I knew that on the Camino I was seeing blazes for other trail systems but I didn't know what they were called or how to look them up.

Only problem is, I've clicked around and landed on the enticing Wikipedia maps of the European long-distance trail system. As if obsessing about the many Caminos wasn't enough, now I'm going to spend my time daydreaming about several thousand km more of trails I'll never walk!
