Acknowledging that the purpose of pilgrimage to SDC has changed

The purpose has changed? Really? Don't know about that. It's stayed the same for me and a great percentage of that personal purpose is the Camino's original purpose. As far as anyone else's reason? I personally could care less. 🤷

    Stolen poles

There's a YouTube video where two peregrinas discover their trekking poles missing in the morning. The hospitaltero takes them in his car and off they go and actually locate the thieves walking in the Camino just a few kilometer away and who are definitely embarrassed for being caught red handed...

    Best book for all routes

There are a lot of routes. I don't think there's a guidebook that compares them all. Do some online research about the different routes, pick a couple that are what you are looking for and then get the respective guidebooks for them.

LIVE from the Camino Between Sarria and Portomarin

You won't experience waves of 100 kilometer pilgrims in October, especially mid October.

LIVE from the Camino Between Sarria and Portomarin

Having just completed a Camino Frances a couple of weeks ago I'll say again what I said in a previous post about it and that is I don't recommend that anyone, especially first timers, plan or schedule their Camino Frances where they are walking from O'Cebreiro to Santiago during the month of August.

    Lost & Found Lost Shoes

On my most recent Camino I met two pilgrims who had shoes stolen in the albergue. Stolen because there was no similar pair left behind. It happens fairly often. I always remove my insoles and put them in an outer pocket of my backpack and there are times when I've had a bottom bunk I simply put...

A general "don't bring/don't pack" in your attitude kit

Of course hatred and hostility is a bad thing anywhere, not just on the Camino, but everyone is different. We humans are perfectly imperfect and that's the way we're supposed to be. To be honest your post is a bit self righteous and your opinion on what's offensive may not be shared by every...

What would you tell a new pilgrim NOT to do ?

Because they're older that means they can afford private accommodations every night? 😆 You are not serious with that comment, are you? You still can delete it.

What would you tell a new pilgrim NOT to do ?

It's rude and unsanitary to do that and the albergues don't want you to do that. Prospective pilgrims, don't do it. Put your pack on the floor. I never saw an albergue sleep area with no floor space.

What would you tell a new pilgrim NOT to do ?

I saw the earbud wearing pilgrims on my recent Camino Frances fairly often and sometimes when they were walking on roadways. Totally unsafe and quite frankly, dumb thing to do. I guess pilgrims are devolving. Losing navigation skills and common sense. 😆

    Neurodiversity on the Camino

Hmmmm.....the Camino Frances wouldn't be my first choice if I had such a condition. It's walked by literally hundreds of thousands of people annually, and one will experience crowded restaurants, cafes, bars, stores, plazas etc. Not to mention the interactions and noises involved with communal...

What would you tell a new pilgrim NOT to do ?

What kind of unsolicited insights? Elaborate please....

    Use Albergue before getting credential?

Private accommodations don't require a credential and could care less if you have one when you make reservations.

What is it Really like walking on from Sarria these days?

I just recently completed the Frances. I reached Sarria on the 5th of August and walked out the next morning, the 6th. There was an incredible amount of 100km pilgrims. Hundreds. At one point I shared the path that day and the next two days with at least 500 in some spots, playing music, smoking...

What would you tell a new pilgrim NOT to do ?

Don't be overly concerned and scared about staying on the Camino path, especially the Frances. It is so well marked and honestly you gotta be walking with your proverbial cranium in da six to get lost. I recently walked the Frances and it was comical how app dependent so many pilgrims were. They...

    Use Albergue before getting credential?

You can get credentials in Pamplona. Which albergue in Pamplona will you be staying in?

Is a pack liner a good idea or nah?

I carry a trash bin liner and put all my clothes in such in it when it appears as though I may walk in the rain. It works well and weighs nothing, keeps my stuff dry and when I get home I line the trash bin with it. No need to buy a special waterproof bag for the Camino.

    Half a wild boar

Life in the country. Because they are so prolific wild boar populations can easily reach nuisance levels. It's possible that an odd one here or there is taken out of season, but it makes not even a dent on their populations. I'm sure passing pilgrims wasn't on the minds of whomever killed the...

    SJPDP pilgrim office - why?

If one already has a set of credentials obviously a visit to the pilgrim's office in SJPdP isn't a necessity and one isn't required to go there to get a shell to hang off one's backpack. 😄 I always go there simply because I enjoy going there even if I already have a set of credentials. I've...

A call for regulation or permit on the Francés

Credentials are inexpensive and available in so many places along the Camino (Frances specifically). Why go through the possible hassle at the pilgrim's office in Santiago that a homemade one might cause. 🙄
