Splitting up Portomarín to Palas de Rei

I also suggest since you will have the time to take a 2 km detour each way and visit the Vilar de Donas church en route about 7 kms before Palas de Rei. The altar frescoes should be completely restored by now and it is well worth the side trip. You will see the sign.

What was you best moment (apart from walking)?

I walked my first camino last year starting in SJPP on April 13, ending in Santiago May 18th. The first night was the best moment. The Napoleon route was closed so I went the Valcarlos route from SJPP to Roncesvalles through pouring rain. As veterans know this day is fairly trying and the...

    Pilgrims Office of SJPP

I started this year on April 13th from SJPP. Lots of mud and rivers were high so be prepared. This was an abnormally wet spring from what I understand but people one to two weeks before me couldn't take certain routes due to flooding. Was advised by pilgrim's office NOT to take Napoleon...

    Bayonne to St. Jean

I've heard very good things about Express Bourricot and if you are sharing with other pilgrims, the cost from the Biarritz airport goes down to 19 Euros per person if the van is full.

    Bayonne to St. Jean

I'm told the trains have been suspended while there are track repairs going on. They are supposed to be running buses to SJPP but have heard some people have had to arrange their own transportation. You might want to have alternate plans.

Biarritz airport to Bayonne rail station

I agree and I guess would add the word "supposed" to your post. I've seen posts by pilgrims on Facebook this past week where no bus was available and they ended up going by Express Bourricot which apparently is cheaper to arrange from the airport.

Biarritz airport to Bayonne rail station

Do you have anything in particular you need to do in Bayonne? I'm asking as I've heard the trains from Bayonne to St Jean Pied de Port have been suspended until further notice due to landslide/maintenance issues on the line so you might be better getting a shared ride from the airport.

    Napoleon route

Hi there! Does anyone know if it will be reopened, subject to weather today/tomorrow? The original official closing period ends today, March 31. Cannot find any news on it anywhere. I know it may still face the occasional weather closure and the SJPP pilgrim's office will let me know but...
