    My cancer camino

One thing I learnt from chemo is that if the insomnia seems insolvable, I’m better to get up, make a pot of tea and move to my sofa.

Pilgrimage in England: Winchester to Canterbury

If you are good to carry more you could probably do StCW relatively cheaply (at least in normal times). You might have to self cater. You can wild camp in Scotland, which would cover the first couple of days. You could stay at the SYHA hostel in Kirk Yeltholm and the YHA one in Wooler. The...

COVID Planning to walk the Camino Frances - advice for a novice during Covid

Are you time limited - I’ve if you don5 go now you will never be able to go. If not, I’d delay. Also whilst eric covers basic medical expenses at state hospitals, it won’t get you home if you have a medical problem.

Pilgrimage in England: Winchester to Canterbury

I just walked St Cuthberts Way to Lindisfarne. Yes it wasn’t cheap. No accomodation in the UK is cheap at the moment. BUT we saw maybe two or three other walkers most days. It was quiet. It starts in Melrose and ends at the priory on Holy Island or Lindisfarne. There are several days hill...

    Publicly humiliated for snoring

i have a snoring partner, so am well used to night noises. After years I find it mostly reassuring. So most nights on my first Camino I just went gently with it. Normal levels of noise are part of the albergue experience. BUT in Tosantos I slept on a mat about three inches from a large...

    COVID Mask Rules

I’m counting down the days to my Frances trip. However I’m getting very mixed responses to the rules on masks. Very keen to be compliant. This trip I’m traveling Burgos to Fromista followed by Leon to O Cebreiro. Can some of you advise? Local friends in Astorga say that they wear a mask out...

    From Blind "rescued Irish Walker"

I think this whole thing is alarming. What did the "guides" think they were doing leaving SJPP at 11am with a group of un-proven walkers including visually impaired people. And to do so without waterproofs etc.... Ireland is a wet, cool country. You wouldn't go walking in the hills there...
