    I re-sealed my seams with the iron on tape. Low temperature iron and using a cotton cloth to protect the nylon. So far so good. The curved seams are a little more difficult but manageable.

    I too wash my pack in a front loading machine. I take it to a self-service laundromat with high capacity machines. Slip it in lengthwise with a mild soap and it is like new when it comes out. I air dry it. I have done Vaude, Osprey, Arcteryx and Gregory packs without adverse effects. I use a...

    End of the day sandals

    I had a pair of those (Birkenstock plastic). I carried them on the outside of my bag and let me just say they don’t like the heat. They shrank for lack of the scientific term. Comfortable until I couldn’t wear them anymore.

    Flying with poles in carryon.

    I agree. I have not had a problem USA to Madrid but 50/50 Madrid to USA. Never in Santiago or France. Next time will mail my poles home when finished and not worry about it.

    I have used Vodaphone and Orange in the past. Last two years the Vodaphone coverage was not very good on the Norte last year and Madrid this year. Check the coverage for the areas you will be in to make sure you will be likely to have the best signal.

    On the Norte, the Albergue de Perigrinos San José in Zumaia requires a minimum of 15 kms walked but that is the only one I can recall.

    I live in US and I have used Allianz for my travel insurance and have been pleased. There was a medical emergency and they covered without a hassle for an early return home. I purchase day of buying airline. Easy to use website and good service.
