Pre-Camino walking regimes - are they worth it? Do they work? Are they needed?

We almost had to go home on our first Camino due to my partner having a perfect storm of exhaustion and low electrolytes that had showed symptoms of a heart attack. It came on fast with no real warning on day 9. After a day of rest and a slow few days he was ok but it was very frightening. I...

Holy Days celebrated at Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela

Yes Thank you. I spaced on Pentacost -- It's a safe bet. I realize I'm being a bit of a baby but I don't do well in heat (I'm from Seattle) and I'm a little concern about finishing off the maseta in late May early June.

Holy Days celebrated at Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela

My husband and I walked from Leon to Santiago in October 2019 intending to return in 2020 for the first half. We are now planning that return of SJPDP to Leon in April/May 2022. As the Cathederal was under construction when we were there, even though we will end in Leon, we intend to take the...

    Poncho

I had the REI poncho but the first time I used it in a trial rain storm the seams let the rain through after about two hours. So I returned it and bought the Frog Toggs. Frogg Toggs kept me and my pack dry but it did blow around on the camino so we also used a light weight rope (our clothes...

A Trail Mix and Snack Thread

I brought about 5 quart ziplock bags from home. When I bought nuts, dried fruit, misc i dumped than all in a ziplock to mix. This was handy as once you open the packages they tend to get messy. After I used the bag for about a week (refilling as necessary) I moved it on to a back pocket to use...

    Napoleon route October 4th?

If we leave SJPDP October 4th, is it in your experience that the Napoleon route will be open with ok weather? I guess I define OK weather as not dangerous winds and snow. I realize weather is a wildcard even on a good day. We can leave September 18th but we save about $200 on airfare if we...

Monastery of San Xulián de Samos

What is you experience touring the monastery (English is our first and only fluent language)? Do you believe Is it worth the 6-7K detour? Were you able to explore the monastery independently? Our camino will be from Leon to Santiago beginning in mid-October. We have 15 days to walk this time...

Pilgrim masses in Santiago cathedral to be suspended from Monday 28 January 2019

I realize this maybe a stupid question but those if you who are more familiar do you think there any chance they may move the Botafumiero to another church? Has it ever been in another church? It meant a lot to to me to be there on November 1st for All Saints Day Mass. Please know that I realize...

    Airfare to Madrid

I thought this was awesome and wanted to share. I found airfare in October for $560 RT from Seattle including a seat assignment and 1 checked bag. I purchased through KLM but 3 of the 4 segments are on Delta.
