    COVID cancellations

I have just cancelled all my May and June accommodations in Spain, all made with and received full refunds for any monies paid upfront. Also received my deposit back from Biarritz airport transfers. The only thing left in the works is the airfare, and that will be weeks before...

COVID Airline refund on cancellation ?

Thank you so much for the offer of help. At the moment all is uncertain- when we arrive (and possibly where), if we can transit (if flights are available), if we have to quarantine although by that stage we will have been effectively quarantined for several weeks, and so on. When thing become a...

COVID Airline refund on cancellation ?

Dear all I am currently on the ship Azamara Pursuit, sitting in the bay at Valparaiso, Chile where we have been for several days after our cruise was cancelled when Peru shut its borders. After initially saying we could transit the Chilean govt reneged, and we will now go to Miami in the hopes...

St. John's Eve along the Final Stages of the Primitivo or in SdC?

I don’t have an answer to your question, but as I will be arriving in SDC on 23 June after my first Camino this is of interest. This is the first I’ve heard of St John’s eve not being religious, so I will be watching for further details. Hopefully someone has experience of this situation.

If You Only Had Time To Spend In One City: Porto vs. Lisbon

I’m with the crowd, Dave. Porto is a wonderful city to visit, and seemed to me to be more accessible than Lisbon. Lovely down along the river where there are often markets with great linen and cork products.

Before you start going down the road of changing shoes and orthotics, have you tried different sock combinations? It may be that the bulk of the orthotics means you need thinner socks, or fewer layers of socks. Might be the easy answer - hope so for your sake. Good luck.

    The Introverted Pilgrim

Thank you Dave. This was another of those aspects of the Camino causing anxiety, pre-trip. I am not a natural joiner-in, so was wondering whether I would survive what seems like a social free for all. Glad to know I am not alone. How did you manage in reality, without offending people or...

    Pre-Camino Travel Ideas

My vote would be either Cadiz or Granada after visiting the Prado. The Alhambra in Grenada is a must see.

    A Christmas present

Lovely Gerard, thanks. Unfortunately my day has started with a burst water main, but the guys are working hard to get it sorted out. Christmas cheer will be just a little delayed 😇. Merry Christmas to forum members and families. cheers Glenda

    Best Camino "tour operator"?

Hi @Starlove I understand your hesitancy as I have been planning my own first Camino for next May. There are plenty of resources to arrange everything yourself. Use to get an idea of all the towns/villages between Sarria and Santiago de Compostela, and the distances between...

    Backpack straps - newbie question

Great strategy @MaineSally but I’m afraid I can’t sew to save my life😇, so that one’s not for me. However, I do hear everyone on not cutting straps too short. I will certainly be rugging up as I feel the cold, and will no doubt be putting on and taking off layers endlessly. I think I will go...

    Backpack straps - newbie question

You guys are incredibly innovative and great at adaptation. Thanks for the suggestions. I will give alternatives a trial over the next few months before final decisions about cutting off before I head off on 1 May.

    Backpack straps - newbie question

@SenorJacques - thanks for a great alternative. As you say I might want to get rid of the pack post-Camino (depending on how things go and whether I get the bug others on the forum are infected by), so this is less drastic. Love your dog BTW.

    Backpack straps - newbie question

Hi Theresa At the moment I have a bumbag/waist bag/fanny pack that I have done just that with for the excess straps, but wasn’t sure if it would last the distance. Cutting off seems better all round.

    Backpack straps - newbie question

Hi Annie Mine is a Deuter too, but after this morning’s trial with straps dangling and rubbing against knees/quads thought that would drive me insane after a while. Yes, will definitely be doing the cutting while straps are loosened off.

    Backpack straps - newbie question

Hi everyone This will undoubtedly have the experienced among you sighing heavily, but my Camino in May 2020 will be my first backpacking venture so please bear with me. I have my pack (followed fitting instructions on the forum), and have just done my first training ‘run’ in it with minimal...

    May 2020 - 1st timer - SJPP to Burgo

Hi Sharry As you only have 2 weeks (presumably plus travel time) you may want to fly to Biarritz from CDG (easy jet leaves from there), and then get a shared transfer to SJPDP with Express Bouricott. Otherwise what Andycohn has suggested are good options. I start on 6 May next year so may see...
