COVID Covid testing at Madrid airport

We used the online-assisted rapid COVID test for return to USA: My husband and I flew from Madrid to USA on United Airlines two weeks ago and we used the NAVICA online COVID testing service and Abbot Labs quick tests that United had recommended. We ordered & received the kits at home in USA and...

Pilgrim Menus - what are your favourite items?

I am a huge fan of the Galician soups made with turnip greens. This is the perfect thing to eat during a break on a cold rainy day. Susan

    Madrid Airport to Pamplona

I used ALSA bus in Sept. 2021 and it was very easy. Bus leaves from Terminal 4; change buses at Zaragoza, and into Pamplona by late afternoon. Buses were clean, on time, everything well-organized. We had nice views out the bus windows that day — attaching some photos. I bought the tickets...

Packing Strategy when using Luggage Transportation Service

Our agency Follow the Camino, who used Jacotrans to move bags, had these limits: 1 bag per person, with weight limits per bag of 20kg in Spain and 15 kg in France.

    Bag transport with Jacobtrans

Here’s a nice view of the León Cathedral from the Camino on our walk into León.

    Bag transport with Jacobtrans

Ha! Yes, that may be their reasoning. I’m sorry amyshmn received an unexpected charge. FYI, we spent three days walking from Sahagún to León. They were three short, easy days, but, still, 3 days! We beat our transported luggage to León, and that was less fun than we thought it would be.

Packing Strategy when using Luggage Transportation Service

I used luggage transport for my 2 camino trips. A good-fitting 18 liter backpack and a small, wheeled carry-on bag for transport has been great, as has the consistently excellent transport service: the transported bag always made it to the destination, in fine condition, before I did. For me, it...

    Camino Frances 2021

The shoes (espadrilles) were in several different shops on the main streets in St. Jean Pied-de-Port. Some probably would ship; sorry I do not have their names and addresses.

    Public holiday 12th October

I was in Ponferrada on Oct. 12, 2019, and they waived the entrance fee to the castle because of the holiday! The castle is worth seeing if you have time. If there were festivals, we didn’t see them. We ate in a hotel restaurant across the street from the castle entrance; I think there were some...

    Pico de los Resquilones

And my Google Tranalate app says “shimmer” is the English word for Spanish “resquilar.” Not sure how that fits in and surprised that Google is translating a word that RAE doesn’t recognize!

Sarria to Santiago. 4 days? or 5? Late November

My family & friend group of 6 adults took five days in mid-Oct. 2019 to walk from Sarria to Santiago. We had rain every day, usually light, though the walk was pleasant. I don’t think other pilgrims slowed us down, other than the occasional line for a rest room! We were happy to have a few...

Bus from Pamplona to St. Jean Pied de Port working again.

We took the bus from Pamplona to St. Jean PdP on 9/20/2021 and it was easy: on time, reasonably priced and we arrived safely.

We are in Puente La Reine. Today we finished Day 4 of our Camino (we began in St. Jean PdP). Good weather! Lots of sun. Wind, too, on the high part. I know why all the wind turbines are up there. Enjoying the weekend Camino crowd and looking forward to more time on the Camino.

Traveling from Spain to France for Camino Frances: will it be better to go via San Sebastián or via Pamplona to St. Jean-Pied-de-Port? One bus from Pamplona will be simpler. Is it worthwhile to visit San Sebastián? We’re from USA, vaccinated, walking from St. Jean-Pied-de-Port to León beginning...
