I agree! Juan Jose (Juanjo) was an amazing support when I contacted him recently to help a pilgrim we met on the Lana who had an accident resulting in a fractured foot. He organised local people to provide all the help needed to get the pilgrim back to UK. Can’t thank him enough.

Hi Alex - So sorry to hear about your accident. Are you still in Alicante? Richard and I are here tonight. We start our Ruta de La Lana tomorrow. We’d love to meet up if you feel well enough. Eileen xx

    Albergue kitchens closed down

We haven’t been full at all so far - most pilgrims seem to be heading for private rooms. There are 3 hotels in the village now and another private albergue. Probably more choice than when you were here? Tonight is our last night - we’ve really enjoyed it. Heading to Alicante tomorrow to...

    Albergue kitchens closed down

Yes - me too 🤣. Very unusual to have such a big kitchen. We’ve had the fire going most nights. It’s been freezing here !

    Albergue kitchens closed down

We are currently Hospitaleros in the Donativo Municipal albergue in El Burgo Ranero. The kitchen is open and the pilgrims cook enthusiastically every night. They are great at cleaning up after themselves and often improvise a shared meal ( we are not allowed to offer communal meals).

    Transport Options on the Meseta

From El Burgo Ranero there is a bus to Leon 3 mornings a week and a train every morning and evening.

LIVE from the Camino Starting the Olvidado on Sept 18 2019

Hi Fred - Just a good idea I think. We walked in September last year and found that there weren’t many places open - particularly in the evenings. We stayed in lots of quiet villages. It’s a beautiful route- loved it. But be prepared not to meet other pilgrims. I have lots of notes etc - so...

Historic way on the Norte from La Caridad

I completely agree . We have just walked the historic route and it was really great. Very well waymarked, bars/restaurants along the way just where you need them and spectacular scenery along the ria and into the mountains. The albergues at Vegadeo and La Trapa were fabulous with wonderful...

    Great bar/restaurant in Cadavedo

Strong recommendation for bar El Casino in Cadavedo - on the left as you enter the village just past the supermarket. Really great food at reasonable price in very friendly bar. One of the best meals we've had since leaving Basque Country.

LIVE from the Camino Starting the Olvidado on Sept 18 2019

Hi Mike - we've just walked the Olvidado from Bilbao to La Robla then the San Salvador and have arrived in Oviedo about an hour ago. If you have any questions about Olvidado, please feel free to ask. Carry 2 days of food at all times and you should be fine 😄 It's a fabulous camino. We met...

    Advise sought on Olvidado

Also worth knowing - the albergue juvenil in Guenes does not accept individuals ( only large groups). We walked on to Zalla and stayed at the fabulous and welcoming Ibarra- Zalla. Pilgrim price of 55 euro for a double room - expensive for us, but worth it. You can buy food for Nava in...

    Advise sought on Olvidado

Just a quick update on Adolfo's albergue. We are staying here tonight. It's not yet finished, but is open. There are beds, working toilet facilities and a basic kitchen. Adolfo is a lovely man and is working on getting it fully equipped. You can cook a basic meal here ( bring your own food as...

Medina de Rioseco - reopening of convent

We are staying there tonight. The young guy who took our "donativo" ( required minimum of 7euro) said there are 3 monks. The albergue is good - 20 beds in 2 rooms with 4 showers/bathrooms and great kitchen. Very peaceful - we are the only ones here.
