Camino Norte or repeat Camino Frances

I walked full Norte this September and the Frances in April 2019. They are lots of differences - The Norte is quite a bit harder but has more beautiful scenery - both just in my opinion, beauty is a bit subjective isn't it There is significantly more road walking on the Norte but there are...

Coastal alternatives to the Norte's asphalt

I walked this a couple of weeks ago. From memory I don't think there any very steep or arduous sections. My GPS tracker recorded just over 350m of ascent for the whole day so one of the easier days.

Specific transit question about Madrid airport

Both flights are on one booking reference so I'm guessing yes.

Specific transit question about Madrid airport

I'm flying London to Madrid tomorrow with BA (landing terminal 4S) and then Iberia to San Sebastian (terminal 4). I've been allowed to check in for both flights but not sure if my baggage will be checked all the way through to San Sebastian? I have almost 3hrs between flights anyway and it looks...

    Hendaye - Hondarribia Ferry

Thanks for replies. Using Google maps walking from Irun is 6.1kms to the port at Hondarribia and approx 4kms using the Ferry so very marginal. My hotel is just over the bridge in Irun, just inside the Spanish border.

    Hendaye - Hondarribia Ferry

I'm starting the Camino Norte on 28th August from Irun but I'm wondering what's the best way to get to Hondarribia (where I plan to follow the coastal GR route). I can see there is a ferry from Hendaye which might might save me a few kms but does anyone have any experience of how often this...

Is my daily average goal too ambitious?

It's a hard question to answer because we are all different. The training you've been doing will certainly help and may be sufficient. It really all depends on how your body responds to cranking out these distances day after day after day. Like you I do a lot of cycling but I also walk a lot...

Coastal alternatives to the Norte's asphalt

Hi, I'm starting the Norte in Late August and I've started to look at some of these excellent coastal alternative suggestions as I'm a lover of great scenery. I have a question on the first stage - Irun to Pasajes. If I interpret my Cicerone guide book correctly the coastal alternative would...

Getting to Camino Del Norte from UK

Hi, I'm starting the Norte in August flying from Heathrow to San Sebastian via Madrid with BA/Iberia. The airport is very close to Irun

    Advice from a first timer

Totally agree with all that superb advice. I walked the Frances in 2019 aged 57. My backpack was just under 9kgs loaded. I took 35 days and was lucky enough not to suffer any physical problems at all. I did however do lots and lots and lots of training beforehand. I probably walked more than...

Camino del Norte in 28 days. Start in Bilbao or start in Irun and skip some stages?

Thank you chaps. I will look into this. I had been planning top walk the Norte this year but am increasingly drawn to 2022 given the circumstances surrounding the pandemic.

Hi, I couldn't find Vegadeo on my guidebook map and Google doesn't recognise it. Can you provide any more detail on this route please?

    Starting stamp

I am planning on starting my Camino in Hondaribbia since it is convenient for the airport. Are there any recommendations for where to get a starting stamp in my credential?

Late call to get boots back on

Good luck with your Camino. I was planning on the Norte this April but have now postponed until April next year. Always good to have something to look forward to!

Camino del Norte - Stages of 20-30km

I was intending to walk the Notre this May and was planning to take 32 days. That would have necessitated 9 days over 30kms which did not overly concern me based on my experiences on the Francais last year. I'm 58, reasonably fit and try to be very well prepared by doing a lot of training walks...

Footwear: The Limitations of a Personal Recommendation

Totally agree with all of the above. I would only add that peoples experiences are undoubtedly coloured by the amount of conditioning they have subjected their feet to before they attempt the Camino. Even the best/most expensive footwear will be unable to shield you from poor preparation.

    Iberia Cancellations and Refunds

Thanks Ivar - that would certainly explain it.

    Iberia Cancellations and Refunds

I was able to speak to Iberia this morning and successfully obtain refunds for my flights on the 18th April and 20th May. I did not want the voucher option that they have been pushing on their website so I had to call them directly. Even then they made it difficult to get through the automated...
