Strangest food & drink on the Camino

I was surprised when I ordered black tea with milk and was given a little pot of hot milk and a tea bag. No water. I did enjoy it.

Cafe con Leche / Coffee on the Camino: Enquiring Coffee Lovers want to know!!

Yes, that would probably be better than a pill for most people. (They also sell little coffee candies in Spain that have quite a bit of caffeine.) The thing is, I don't want to eat anything at all. If I have anything at all to eat, then I get that low-blood-sugar feeling until I've eaten...

Cafe con Leche / Coffee on the Camino: Enquiring Coffee Lovers want to know!!

Yes, I'm certainly a caffeine addict. On early caminos, I did find it hard when I couldn't find coffee before starting to walk in the morning. Then I realized I could take caffeine pills. One 100 mg pill gets me through a couple of hours till the first bar and breakfast. (100 mg is close to...

Cafe con Leche / Coffee on the Camino: Enquiring Coffee Lovers want to know!!

We had the same experience. We first fell in love with European coffee in Italy. First day in Italy we stopped at a bar and had coffee and couldn't believe how good it was. I told my husband "We've got to remember this bar and come back." Little did we know it would be that good just about...

Cafe con Leche / Coffee on the Camino: Enquiring Coffee Lovers want to know!!

I wanted to put in a plug for café con leche made with Delta coffee. It is a Portuguese brand but my husband and I had it a couple of times on the camino in Spain. Both times we were blown away with how good it was -- rich and complex but not harsh. The first place was Casa Pancho, near...

Any advice on a coastal town/ sea-view accommodation in Galicia or Asturias?

I second this vote for Gijon. My husband and I spent 10 days there in 2019 and fell in love with it. Not a tourist town but beautiful and so-livable. I envy the people who get to live there.

    When It Rains It Pours?

Today it's a cloudy cold windy day in New Mexico where I live. It's usually sunny and beautiful here and when we do have weather like this, I usually wimp out of taking my daily walk. I often tell my husband on these days, "If we were on the Camino we'd just walk no matter what ... and that's...

    When It Rains It Pours?

My husband and I've been lucky. We've encountered a few heavy rainy days but not too many. We mailed our rain pants home from Logrono on our first Camino when we were desperate to shed weight. Since then we have really liked having rain skirts/kilts. Super light weight and effective. There...

Not your usual question about hiking poles

Yes, I'm convinced. I will plan to check them to my final destination. Many thanks, to everyone who responded.

How do you manage to overcome your language learning laziness?

Here you can get a monthly subscription (with a free trial to start): https://www.pimsleur.com/ You might also try your local library. This worked for me.

Not your usual question about hiking poles

This is exactly what I needed to know. Thank you, Ivar! I don't think I'd want to ask my friend to do that so I won't be mailing them.

Not your usual question about hiking poles

Oh my gosh, this is so helpful! You answered all the things I was wondering about but didn't state explicitly: Can I check the poles all the way to A Coruna? Will I have to re-check in Madrid? Thank you so much.

How do you manage to overcome your language learning laziness?

Another vote for Pimsleur. Years ago I was able to get the Pimsleur audiotapes from my local library (Latin American Spanish) and went through all the levels over and over and over. Lately, you can get Spanish via a monthly subscription on an app and European Spanish is available. It's a...

Not your usual question about hiking poles

I'm considering mailing my hiking poles from the United States to a friend in A Coruna. I wonder if anyone has had experience with mailing items to Spain and how long it might take. I know I could buy poles after we get there, but these are some nice light-weight carbon Z-poles that I really...

New law gathering personal information from travellers in Spain, starting Feb. 2023

At larger hotels, we usually use Apple Pay via my husband's iPhone. Our understanding is that this generates a different credit card number every time, not the card we use to pay Apple ultimately. The same would probably be true for Samsung Pay, Google Pay, etc. Would this be a solution for...

Need Opinions on Airfare Price today if possible

That sounds like an excellent price. A couple of weeks ago we booked AA flight to A Coruna in April and it cost nearly twice that. From ABQ. Do you mean Albuquerque? That's where we are flying from as well!

Shakedown request: February on the Camino Frances, 35 pounds current weight

One thing you might tell him about is that all the larger towns have what people call "China stores" (I'm not sure that is the best term) which have just about anything you can think of to buy, not always high quality, but very cheap. Good place to pick up sandals or shampoo or soap or warmer...

Shakedown request: February on the Camino Frances, 35 pounds current weight

We just walked the Frances in March and didn't encounter any mosquitoes. Never encountered mosquitos in late spring or fall either. Have never carried mosquito repellent. If you do need it, you can get it along the way.

Accommodations close to Santiago train station

We stayed at Hotel Alda San Carlos and were quite happy with it. Like you, we chose it because it was close to the train station, just a few minutes walk. And neighborhood is quite nice. https://aldahotels.es/alojamientos/hotel-alda-san-carlos/
