Multipurpose shoes for shower and town?

So good to know about these. Thanks!! I like how Tevas fit me. Mine aren't terribly heavy but these sound perfect. I just ordered a pair.

Multipurpose shoes for shower and town?

I second the Tevas. I've hiked in them once or twice because of blisters. And they are waterproof and great for walking around town. And not too heavy.

US/EU Outlet Adapter with USB Ports - Any Experience Using?

Yes, we, too left behind several before we figured out the taping trick.

    When It Rains It Pours?

Today it's a cloudy cold windy day in New Mexico where I live. It's usually sunny and beautiful here and when we do have weather like this, I usually wimp out of taking my daily walk. I often tell my husband on these days, "If we were on the Camino we'd just walk no matter what ... and that's...

    When It Rains It Pours?

My husband and I've been lucky. We've encountered a few heavy rainy days but not too many. We mailed our rain pants home from Logrono on our first Camino when we were desperate to shed weight. Since then we have really liked having rain skirts/kilts. Super light weight and effective. There...

Not your usual question about hiking poles

Yes, I'm convinced. I will plan to check them to my final destination. Many thanks, to everyone who responded.

Not your usual question about hiking poles

This is exactly what I needed to know. Thank you, Ivar! I don't think I'd want to ask my friend to do that so I won't be mailing them.

Not your usual question about hiking poles

Oh my gosh, this is so helpful! You answered all the things I was wondering about but didn't state explicitly: Can I check the poles all the way to A Coruna? Will I have to re-check in Madrid? Thank you so much.

Not your usual question about hiking poles

I'm considering mailing my hiking poles from the United States to a friend in A Coruna. I wonder if anyone has had experience with mailing items to Spain and how long it might take. I know I could buy poles after we get there, but these are some nice light-weight carbon Z-poles that I really...

Shakedown request: February on the Camino Frances, 35 pounds current weight

One thing you might tell him about is that all the larger towns have what people call "China stores" (I'm not sure that is the best term) which have just about anything you can think of to buy, not always high quality, but very cheap. Good place to pick up sandals or shampoo or soap or warmer...

Shakedown request: February on the Camino Frances, 35 pounds current weight

We just walked the Frances in March and didn't encounter any mosquitoes. Never encountered mosquitos in late spring or fall either. Have never carried mosquito repellent. If you do need it, you can get it along the way.

    shoes for narrow feet

Le Sportiva trail runners have worked well for me as well. I have narrow heels. Hard to find shoes that don't slip up and down in the back. But I finally, gratefully, found Le Sportiva.

What shall I remove from my pack.... 🤔

My husband and I ditched our rain pants for rain kilts/skirts. Lighter than a feather (well, 75 grams), effective, and easy to put on and take off.

Things I'd bring, who cares about the weight

I bring a small down pillow (about half the size of a regular pillow). It sure helps me sleep better.

Gregory Zulu 40L as carry on.

I second this. I've been carrying on a Gossamer Gear backpack for years. Just measure the packed bag to be sure it doesn't extend too high. You can cinch the top down as much as necessary to stay within the limit. For me it's a comfortable pack and very lightweight.

    Flightbag

As henrythedog mentioned, the China stores do carry large inexpensive duffle bags. We bought one recently at a China store in Santiago and it worked great.

Carbon vs aluminum hiking poles: experiences and recommendations

Annmte, you know I'm not 100% sure. It's been a while since I bought them. But I think they were the Black Diamond brand tips. They never came off on their own, but I was careful not to use them in rocky areas and to avoid grates. I agree with others above that it's a good idea to take an...

Carbon vs aluminum hiking poles: experiences and recommendations

I've used the same Black Diamond Ultra Distance Z carbon poles on several caminos with no problems. I'd suggest don't forget to buy rubber tips for the poles. They protect your tips and cut down on annoying noise when you are walking on pavement. (Annoying to yourself and others.) They are...

    Let's talk waist packs!

Oh gosh, I didn't realize that it was considered to be vulgar. I do know there are other words referring to parts of anatomy that are considered vulgar but I didn't realize this was one of those. I wouldn't think that that part of a woman's anatomy is inherently vulgar so all words referring to...

    Let's talk waist packs!

It is strange and interesting how that word "fanny" has taken on such different meanings in US vs. elsewhere. I think "pants" is another of those words. But I'm not sure if U.S. speakers need to change?? After all in Spain people say things like "coger un taxi" ("to catch a taxi") all the...
