I usually book about 4-6 weeks in advance. More importantly, I use www.skyscanner.com for this. It has an option to check fares to your destination for a whole month, for example here is a listing of fares from Vancouver to Madrid for the month of November...
I don't think there is any need to book a connecting flight. Once you arrive in Madrid you are 99.99 percent of the way there. If you flight (original or connecting) is delayed, cancelled etc., it may throw a wrench in your plans. Arriving at Madrid you can get a bus directly from the airport to...
I am with mspath on this one. There are numerous posts on this forum that ask "If I arrive at xyz airport at a certain time, will i have plenty of time to clear immigration/customs to get to city center to catch a train to? etc." In some ways you have to assume the worst, you flight may be...
Please advise as to which Spanish government agency is asking for this information and why. I travelled to France and Spain a year ago to the day. This was during the height of Covid. Travelers to those countries were asked at that time to fill out information on-line and they will receive an...
Check with the airline. If you book a ticket online, they will send you info via email concerning the Gate number and which Terminal you would depart from. As peregrina2000 asked, are going to or fro?
Are you arriving from the US and plan to make a connection to another European/Spain...
Info I posted on another thread:
The third time I did my camino, I took the bus from the airport to Atocha Train Station. Stayed at a cheap hotel, (I believe) CC Atocha right by the train station. Game plan was to stay there for 2 nights and then get the train to Pamplona. The Prado Musuem and...

Again from San Francisco, CA & Newark, NJ to Paris/Orly.
I may take this for my Camino/Chemin which starts in the beginning of September.
I believe it makes its maiden voyage tomorrow June 10th.
Good luck.

I with Robo on this one. Both times I took a flight from Santiago to Madrid. Yes, they do leave at ungodly hours, but it is only an hour and a half flight; as opposed to a eight to ten hour train ride. Just remember to arrive in Madrid at least two days prior to your departure.
Good Luck.

Travelled from JFK to Madrid on my last camino on Iberia. No problems with the flight, etc. However, the flight arrived around 6:30am local time. There was a line for immigration. this was compounded by the fact another flight had also arrived from Mexico. In 2017, on my first camino, my flight...
When I first read your post, I thought you were talking about flying from Richmond to Madrid with a stop/lay over in JFK. Obviously it is the other way around. If I were in you shoes, I wouldn't sweat it. If you miss your connection to Richmond, at least you are in the USA and JFK being a...
You can do both! The second time I did the camino, I flew into Madrid and spent a couple of days there. I did not go out to much to see any of the sights, I used the time to adjust from the jet lag. After the camino, I took a bus to Porto, a very beautiful city by the way.
Good luck.

Flying into Madrid is probably the most logistical to and fro. You can take a bus from Madrid Barajas Airport to Pamplona, and change to a bus to SJPDP. After walking the camino, you would take a 6 to 8 hour bus/train ride from Santiago to Madrid. I don't know anything about that because both...
You can take buses from St Jean to Pamplona via ALSA. Just remember there are no buses on Sunday and it may have a limited schedule during the winter season. In fact, last year after I walked from St Jean to Roncesvalles, I was out of it both physically and mentally, so I was going to take a bus...
Just returned as I started by camino this year in Lourdes. Took a flight to Madrid, then a flight to Toulouse in France. Train to Lourdes. (Subliminal suggestion that you may want to start in Lourdes). Walked to St Jean Pied de Port on Vie Piemonte. When you get to Oloran Ste-Marie, you can pick...
I hope I am not too late; it looks you are approaching the witching hour: you leave for Lourdes soon. Since I am looking to do the same next month, if you can update me with your progress, that would be great. You don't have to go into every detail, unless you want. A list of dos, don'ts and...
You must be reading my mind because I was going to post the same question as I may walk from Lourdes to SDC this fall. You can get a bus from Madrid Airport to St Jean Pied de Port France. Here is the link/info...
