    Dragonte Route

I doubt you will have the energy to do any backtracking after doing the Dragonte. You can read my blog for my day on the dragon's back at caminodejaime.com Oct 4, 2022 entry.

    Ditch Pigs 2023: La Rioja!

How do I find out more about the Ditch Pigs and other groups that spend a few days cleaning the trail? It sounds like Ditch Pigs would clash with Thanksgiving Day in US which for me is family time.

    Walking during Semana Santa 2024

I have heard the Semana Santa processions in Leon are some of the best in Spain, right up there with Sevilla and Cuenca. Any other places along the Camino with good Semana Santa celebrations?

Which are the “wilder” (least paved, most rural) Spanish routes?

Have you considered the Appalachian Trail?

I've walked the Camino in barefoot shoes

Excellent report. Thanks for the good information. I will likely stick to my Tevas and Saucony Grids. I did enjoy going barefoot on the long sandy stretches along the Norte beaches.

    Female lone traveller

I would book a place in SJP for your arrival and a place for your most likely second night (Orisson if you want a less demanding first day; otherwise Roncesvalle). And a night or two in SdC to celebrate your achievement. If you are solo, do not set off until daylight and there are other...

    Classical Guitar in Carrion

I am headed towards Carrión de los Condes where there are a lot of good classical guitarists performing at various churches at this time of year. Check it out at Ermita de La Piedad near the Santa Clara monastery

    Day 1: Norte vs Frances

If you don’t have to walk every step on the “official” Camino, then look for the trails along the north coast that hug the cliffs and beaches for some amazingly beautiful scenery. I used Buen Camino to follow the blue path, but found a friend who had better luck using Gronze for the best...

Help! Current Entry Requirements for US Citizen

In which case, bring along your baptismal certificate as well.

    Hiking poles vs staff

As a concluding remark to this thread, I did the Norte from Irun to Oviedo and Primitivo from there to Santiago without poles, staff or other device.

Help! Current Entry Requirements for US Citizen

As long as you are not arriving on an Aeroflot flight you should have no problems. Also, not mentioned above, do not forget to take your birth certificate.

LIVE from the Camino Primitivo or Finishing el Norte

If you can do the Norte coastal, you can do Primitivo. Hospitales is beautiful. I have never done Pola, but it is also supposed to be beautiful. But don’t reject hospitales just because you think it will be too hard.

LIVE from the Camino Primitivo or Finishing el Norte

Don’t miss the pension in St Julian. Nice rooms and an unforgettable meal.

My plan is not to have a plan, is that the point of the Camino?

I carry a 22 liter Osprey Talon and still pack too much.

    Electrolytes.

If your muscles are cramping, give a little thought to your heart, which is also a muscle. Bananas and Aquarius work for me to prevent cramping of leg muscles and the little muscles in your hand, the first place your body starts to cut the supply of electrolytes. I am not a doctor, by the way.

Irun to Santiago de Compostela in 30 days?

I took a bus from Santander to Santillana Del Mar and walked to Comillas, skipping the industrial sprawl. You all want to check different apps to find the best coastal trails. The Camino does not always go close. I found Buen Camino had good alternative routes closer to some of the spectacular...

Irun to Santiago de Compostela in 30 days?

I am doing the Norte/Primitivo. I am on Day 20 and just reached Grado, first stop after Oviedo. I figure on 11 more days. So I think 30 would be pushing it. I would definitely start in Irun and skip some stops somewhere along the way. You can figure it out when you get here. I may bag the...

Coastal alternatives to the Norte's asphalt

Check out the alternate trails on Buen Camino and Gronze. I have avoided a lot of roads and walked by a lot of coastal paths. Lots of options but kind of hard to plan. Just got to get over here and seek out the coastal routes.

    Counting pilgrims on the Norte

saw three walking the wrong way in Comillas today
