    Buying pepper spray in Madrid

Ummm - at the risk of sounding rude, you are in Spain. There aren't too many countries that I would consider safer. What on earth would you want that for? Even in countries where pepper spray may be legal with a license, (Switzerland, Germany and Portugal - not sure about Spain) if you use it...

Alert WARNING if you're leaving Saria tomorrow (4th October 2023) ⚠️.

I'm going to have to tell my friend about that one 🤣

Just the 5 colleagues I mentioned

@trecile ,I’ve asked, yet to find out. She’s a tiny bit busy at the moment !

Alert WARNING if you're leaving Saria tomorrow (4th October 2023) ⚠️.

A friendly heads up to anyone leaving Sarria tomorrow: An Italian friend (with five of her colleagues) is leading a group of 88 teenage students on the Camino from Sarria to Santiago, starting tomorrow! Yes, 94 people in one group. Anyone who meets a friendly, slightly shorter Italian woman...

LIVE from the Camino On My Way to the End of the World :]

Hi Max. Something I meant to ask before but - what are you using to track your distance? I've never bothered before (I tend to minimise the number of apps I use) but as I'm now walking the Jacob's Weg here in Germany it's kind of useful to know. There ain't no signposts or distance markers...

    Leg Pain

Tendonitis is one of the things that calf sleeves or compression sleeves help to relieve and are actually prescribed for. A sports doctor prescribed a compression sleeve for my elbow when I had tendonitis there. Explains why it worked so well for my leg! Remember to take it off if you're...

LIVE from the Camino On the camino de Sagunto

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I always think of it in the context of Venus, rising from the sea…. An apt analogy definitely . Although as I haven’t yet met either @alansykes or (sadly) Venus, I’m not in a position to say if it’s appropriate or not…..

Enjoying your posts, thanks. Hope you’re not too stiff tomorrow. Love that you could laugh about it!

    Bed bug infestation in France

@Sheesh Good video, thanks. Hadn’t realise that they were in the airport too - missed that. Definitely NOT going to be a destination/ stopover for me in the next little while…..

    Language difficulties.

Thanks, @JesperK for starting a very interesting thread. Some truly excellent information above - a few answers are even directly relevant to your question! Mine will not be: The ability to learn and use a language appropriately decreases with age according to many studies. From memory I...

    Bed bug infestation in France

Whilst all of the above is definitely relevant I think we're kind of missing one very important point . The BBC report I watched specified that the problem wasn't just confined to accommodation (eg private houses and hotels etc) but was actually also very widespread on public transport - that is...

LIVE from the Camino Struggling with doubt on the Camino

😂🤣 I was just in the process of typing exactly the same thing! It was quite a movie.....

The Second Camino - how much did it differ from the first (mentally)?

I was there over Easter so my experience doesn't really count, but during that period everything was booked solid in Bruma -including the hotels nearby - for around five days . Everyday something between 20 and 30 people were being turned away according to the Hospitalier. And she mentioned that...

LIVE from the Camino Struggling with doubt on the Camino

Great picture, fantastic to hear that you still on the trail. Suspected as much but still... . Happy to hear that the leg has responded well enough for you to continue, take it easy and you will get there. The last sentence says it all really, doesn't it! You may not know the WHY for months...

    Leg Pain

Like this - should be available in a good Sports shop, esp. If they cater to runners. https://www.cepsports.com/the-run-calf-sleeves-women.html#color=

    Leg Pain

If it is too big around the foot then it is a compression sock not a sleeve, shouldn't go any more than from your ankle to just under your knee. (There are others that do the knee too but you can once again run into similar issues). If you are not used to wearing a compression sock, or, as in...

Electrolytes Help. I forgot my Nuun

Incidentally ,@TexasIndia , bananas and salted nuts eg cashews generally speaking are more than sufficient to assist me through a hard, hot day on a job site - I don't see why the camino would be any different. They're actually recommended on various sites is a natural electrolyte source. I...

The Second Camino - how much did it differ from the first (mentally)?

@Jacki , I loved the Inglès but at the risk of sounding like a fear monger, if you're thinking of staying in Bruma, seriously consider booking the private Albergue there. Or walk the Inglès 'off stage ' as it were, especially if your dates are anywhere near a Spanish holiday. Numerous reports...

Electrolytes Help. I forgot my Nuun

Another vote for Aquarius. I cannot stand Gatorade it's b awful but Aquarius is absolutely wonderful after or during a day's walk. Full sugar is still way less sweet than even a Sprite let alone Gatorade. I seldom actually drink any type of soda but this seems to really hit the spot plus deals...
