    Pilgrim dead at burguete

How sad. My thoughts are with his family. For my upcoming walk, i am starting in St Jean, as i got a handy flight to Biarritz, but i am taking transport past orrison, then walking to Roncesvalles and counting the next day as my "true" first day. I have neck problems and may or may not carry...

    Places to stay Santiago

I stayed at apartamentos Domus Stellae and loved it.. It was really reasonable and extremely close to the cathedral. I have also stayed at the last stamp albergue and it was a nice place, but obviously a very different experience from the apartment.

Newbie picking a starting point for October

After walking, you shower, wash your clothes, hang out with other pilgrims, laugh, chat, rest, read, write, draw etc, have a beer or a wine, go for dinner, then early to bed. I promise you won't be bored :-)

12 days mid october... Where should i walk?

Thanks for the replies. I think I am going to go with Pamplona/Roncesvalles to Burgos. Seems like the best mix of beautiful, accessible, sociable and affordable.

12 days mid october... Where should i walk?

Thank you... Do you think the Meseta would have slightly drier weather than the stretches on either side?

12 days mid october... Where should i walk?

Yeah, I have heard that many people love that stretch.

12 days mid october... Where should i walk?

I have decided to take a quick 2 weeks on Camino from 13 to 27 October. Given travelling time, I think 12 days walking is possible. I don't mind not ending up in sdc as this will be my 4th camino, but first in autumn. Previously I walked from porto, from leon and from Astorga to sdc . I prefer...

    Time for a Sock thread!

Bridgedale socks have worked well for me. Smartwool too. The main thing is to have flat-seamed toes on them. I used to do the 2 socks thing, and did so on my 1st camino. On my second and 3rd caminos, i didnt bother. I have had a single blister on each camino. Not too bad. Funny Highlandshiker...

Beware B4 Booking Motion Chueca Hstl Madrid!

By the way... i have found booking.com very easy to use... eg you only have to enter your credit card details once, they have lots of reviews and pictures of accommodations and the site is clear. They also seem to have the widest variety of accommodations. otherwise you could just download an...

Beware B4 Booking Motion Chueca Hstl Madrid!

This is bad luck. It is normal for some rooms on booking.com to be non refundable and you do need to look carefully before you commit. I suggest you do not cancel, since you wont get your money back anyhow (if you dont turn up they will charge the credit card you provided to booking.com). You...

Torn, 200km done, 1OO ish to go Blisters not healing

Good advice here... can I just add that if the pain is preventing you from sleeping, the pharmacists are really good and can give you some stronger pain relief, maybe a codeine paracetamol combo, which will hopefully take the edge off and let you sleep. edited for spelling

    Bedbugs on Sarria-Santiago this year?

I got bitten. Shame, cos it was a really nice alburgue. This was on the 14th August, so I am sure they have been sorted out by now.

Historical novels based on the Camino?

Does anyone know of any good historical novels about the Camino? I have read my fill of modern pilgrim's experiences and would like to find some alternative camino-related literature.

Please cast a critical eye over my kit list (for a female travelling in August)

Thanks for those suggestions. I have added some safety pins to my kit. Ear plugs have also been added! I will look out for alternative lighter coloured trousers, but dont have much time before I leave, so I may end up having to try and make do, going shopping in spain if necessary.

Please cast a critical eye over my kit list (for a female travelling in August)

Thanks for all the really helpful replies. These forums are the best! I think I will bring a long sleeve blouse, since several people suggest it, and may swap one of my trousers for shorts.
