    Tres tres excited

Have just booked my flight to Spain for summer next year. Walking Oviedo to Grado; 2 weeks at the muni then on to Santiago. :) Anyone else going to be leaving Grado around 16th August?

    Hospitales or Pola de Allande?

Thanks. My natural distance is about 25 - 30km per day so looks like it is manageable

    Hospitales or Pola de Allande?

Unfortunately my employers would have an issue with that!

    Hospitales or Pola de Allande?

Thanks for this. Hoping to walk the Primitivo in August after volunteering at the muni in Grado. Do we think that 11 or 12 days from Grado to Santiago is a reasonable amount of time to complete the route and still appreciate the surroundings?

    Daylight late October

In summer 2017 I did SJ to Moratinos, with repeated 30km+ days in hot weather before my feet gave up. Was planning to go back this summer but didn’t get on the plane due to a recurring back problem...probably would have been ok but didn’t want to risk it...and glad about it given the heatwave...

    Daylight late October

Hello, Will be continuing my Camino in October from just short of Sahagun. Have about ten days and if I’m feeling up to it I would like to get to Santiago in that time...about 400km. Is there enough proper daylight at that time of the year to average 40km a day? TIA Ian

    Camino Frances in August

Making the descent from say Cirauqui or Monjardin in “visible light” is a fools errand imho. Sunrise on Aug 1st in Burgos is 7.07.

August Camino Famous Bed Race Questions >>

Never had a problem finding a bed early last August on the first half of the Frances. You might want to book a bunk at Roncesvalles if you think you'll make a late arrival. I always tried to walk so that if the albergues in a small town were full, there was always another town less than an...

    Camino Frances in August

The only problem with this is that it will be dark! That might be fine on the Meseta, but making the descent from the hill towns where many of the albergues are to be found earlier in the walk is a bit hairy (DAMHIKIJK). Besides, you'll be missing about 90 minutes of the landscape!

    Camino Frances in August

Yes it tends to be hot. Most days last year between SJPDP and the half way mark in Moratinos got above 30 Celsius by the early afternoon. ☀️

    The Meseta; Burgos to Leon

Last year on what turned out to be my last Camino day into Moratinos in 34 degree heat, I spied a solitary tree in the middle of a sun scorched field. I thought to myself “that’s me that is”.

    ALSA website

Hello, I’ve been trying to book buses on ALSA’s website and it keeps on failing to complete the transaction: just getting a turning circle after I put in the card details. Is this a common problem or should I buy a tin foil hat?

    Best Albergues in SJPP.

Because they chop them up to power the AC.

    Best Albergues in SJPP.

Still of interest perhaps to new pilgrims and things can change in 2 years.

Unfortunately my barge pole is in excess of the dimensions accepted by arlines!

    Best Albergues in SJPP.

Had a great evening at Beilari last year...until the professional Aussie snorer in the bunk below me fell asleep! Earplugs have not been made that could have muffled the sound to an acceptable level
