  1. The Cumbrian

Is it possible to walk the camino primitivo as a vegetarian?

It's one of my favourite things, I make it at home too.
  2. The Cumbrian

Taxi Share from Santiago Airport to Ferrol on 12th August 2023

Because I've got a flight to SdC and a taxi booked and a hotel booked in Ferrol to begin the Ingles the next day...

Taxi Share from Santiago Airport to Ferrol on 12th August 2023

My girlfriend and I arrive at SdC airport on the evening of 12th August at 20.20 and have booked a taxi to Ferrol, which will cost €135 to €150. If anyone would like to share the taxi and split the cost, please get in touch. Cheers, Michael.

Is it possible to walk the camino primitivo as a vegetarian?

I had no problems last year, and never found the food to be repetitive. I ate the typical peregrino mixture of albergue meals, restaurants, cafes, shops and market stalls (if you're lucky enough to be passing through Grado on market day you're in for a treat).

    Pilgrim Police

I wish I'd known that, I was chatting to one of them on a quad last year on the Primitivo.
  6. The Cumbrian

St James Way: Reading to Southampton

Could you post a pic of the stamp from God's House Tower and your completion certificate please? When I was there (less than a year ago) no one knew anything about either and I didn't get one.
  7. The Cumbrian

St James Way: Reading to Southampton

I've noticed some hand-painted yellow arrows which were not there when I walked it last year, so hopefully the way will be easier to follow with fewer gaps between markers. Buen Camino.

Are Albergues Open Over the Christmas / New Year Period?

Thanks for that. If Galicia's going through a cold / dry spell, the Ingles is on the cards for me, followed by New Year in Santiago.

Are Albergues Open Over the Christmas / New Year Period?

If the forecast isn't looking too grim (I like the cold, but being from Cumbria, I've had quite enough of rain), I'm thinking of walking the Camino Ingles over Christmas - New Year. Will the albergues and / or other accommodation be open, along with bars and restaurants? Thanks, Michael.

What weather to expect on Primitivo in May

When I walked it in mid to late May this year it rained on three days out of fourteen, and it was prolonged and heavy on only one of those days. Apart from that I was blessed with the weather; bright, warm sunshine, a nice breeze and interesting fluffy white clouds. It was occasionally misty in...

Anyone have a favourite British Pilgrimage?

I walked this recently and was impressed. I only met two other pilgrims, and I'll get around to finishing the write up at some point soon...

Record number of Compostelas issued this year - and its not over yet!

I heard somewhere that there was a popular Korean film or documentary about the Camino that has inspired many of them to visit Spain and walk it.

    Need hiking pants in Lugo!!

I bought some socks from here earlier this year: https://g.page/tienda-columbia-lugo?share I wasn't looking for other items, but they seemed to have a decent selection of clothing. There's a pharmacy and a good supermarket within about 100m too, so a pilgrim is able to get most things they...

St James Way, August - September 2022

St James Way, day 2. Silchester to Preston Candover, 21.9 miles. I resumed the walk uncharacteristically early at Silchester with a tour of the Roman town ruins, and then continued along country lanes, byways and footpaths in the morning sunshine. I foraged some blackberries, hazelnuts and...

St James Way, August - September 2022

St James Way, day 1. Reading to Silchester. 17 miles. To end my summer holiday, I'd originally planned to travel to Spain and walk the Camino San Salvador between Leon and Oviedo. Unfortunately I picked up a third bout of covid six weeks ago and I've had a low grade cold ever since, which...

    St James Way (Southern England)

It was great to meet you two today in The Fox and Hounds. I never expected to be wished "buen camino" here in England, and it was much appreciated. I hope that you made it to the end without incident, and that you're now enjoying a celebratory meal and a few drinks.

    Pilgrim in spirit?

Which book are you reading Kirkie? Cheers, Michael.
  18. The Cumbrian

Where to stay the night before Santiago....?

I struggled to book accommodation as I approached SDC in late May, so I booked into Monte Do Gozo without knowing anything about it. It was alright, so I don't get all the hate for it. I arrived in mid-afternoon, showered, changed and then completed the walk into SDC in the evening sun. I then...

    Headlamp question

I've been using Nitecore rechargeable headlamps for a few years now, and they've been faultless. They're very well regarded amongst ultralight backpackers, and of the two models that I have, I think that this would be most suitable for walking on the Camino outside of the winter months...

    Where do ( did ) you walk ( locally ) in 2022?

I had a great day out last weekend in The Lake District. A traverse of the Skiddaw massif, Ullock Pike, Longside, Carlside, Skiddaw, Little Man and Lonscale Fell.
