    Paving, dirt, gravel, or...?

True; we found them super comfy also, like walking on pillows. But, we were concerned that the tread was intended more for streets and such, so went with the trail runners, which also have max cushioning.

    Paving, dirt, gravel, or...?

Thanks! We both returned our Brooks Glycerin 21's for trail runners; I went for the Brooks Caldera 7 and my wife the Asics Trabuco 3 Max. Super light, max cushion, and comfortable. Is that a new pair of Gobis to replace an older pair, or did you switch shoe type? Poles...yes, definitely! Don't...

    Backpacks Check-in or carry-on

We're facing the same dilemma with our flight from LA to Madrid on IBERIA. The rucksack idea is interesting. Perhaps something fairly inexpensive and post it forward to Santiago? We're going to post our trolleys ahead from our starting point in Leon, so stuffing it in one should work. FWIW, we...

    Paving, dirt, gravel, or...?

Wow, yikes! We're certainly going to try to avoid situations like this...that descent I mean! Dinner and a shower sounds great.

    Paving, dirt, gravel, or...?

Not at all, thanks for the clarification.

    Paving, dirt, gravel, or...?

Thanks! I have always worn Merrell's; they're a great shoe! Today just tried on and purchased the Brooks Caldera 7 trail runner. Same cushion rating as the Glycerin 21, but with a more rugged tread. Buen Camino!

    Paving, dirt, gravel, or...?

Thanks! Since we will be walking quite a bit before and after our Camino, I think the Brooks will be the best all-around shoe choice.

    Paving, dirt, gravel, or...?

Thanks. Yes, using trekking poles really adds a measure of stability, especially downhill. "Loose-on-hard" (loser kies?) demands attention!
  9. teambergie

    Paving, dirt, gravel, or...?

Thanks, good advice! We're always super careful on those downhill sections. We've done many miles of backcountry backpacking without any injuries, but wearing full-on hiking boots!

    Paving, dirt, gravel, or...?

Hello. Having done the Portugese Central from Porto a few years ago, we will be doing the Frances from Leon this April. Searching the forums for footwear suggestions, we (wife and I) decided on, and have been training in Brooks Glycerin 21's. They are super comfy and light. However, we're...

Time needed for security screening at Santiago de Compostela airport.

Hello, we will be completing our Camino de Santiago Portuguese central walk this Friday, July 1. Our flight to Barcelona (Ryanair) departs at 1340 on Sunday, July 3. What should we allow time-wise to get to the airport and through security? Any reports of recent abnormal wait times due to the...

    Bus to Santiago airport

Great information, thanks! Probably less expensive than a 20 Euro taxi? How often does it leave the Praza de Galicia? Is there an online time schedule?

Mobile phone service along the Camino

Thanks, looking at plans now. Thanks for the invite to Pilgrim House; we're planning on staying in Santiago for a few days.

Mobile phone service along the Camino

Right, understand. We will be visiting those countries along with our other travels. From what I understand US citizens (amongst others) can be in the Schengen travel zone for a maximum 90 days. We just want to visit Ireland/Croatia so we can be "over there" since it's a long flight from the...

Mobile phone service along the Camino

Hello, we are doing our first Camino, the Coastal Way in Portugal. Coming from the USA, what is the best mobile phone plan to have along this Camino? We will be bringing our "unlocked" 4G Samsung Galaxy S9 and can swap out the SIM card to one from a local/EU carrier. Since our plans are to be in...
