    Embarrassing moments

Somewhere after Vilei, I was coming around a corner, exhausted and hungry. I saw a table full of fruit, meats and cheeses. The bread was already sliced open. I greeted the 3 people with an Hola and started to ask how much for a sandwich when at a second glance I saw a young boy coming around...

Thanks for the advice. I found on StingyNomads.com details about the spiritual variant, they list Armenteira to Vilanova de Arousa as 21km.....WalktheCamino.com shows the stage as 24.6km......my math above is based on Wise Pilgrim guide. With all of my spreadsheet calculations last summer, I...

I managed to shave some distance by altering the stages. I'm unsure how to get below that last 30km. Thanks for the elevation information. My Wise Pilgrim guide doesn't show elevation for the Spirtual Variant, only the central route. I think I'll do what I did when planning last summer...

    Route opinion

Yes, the goal is to take an early bus and then walk to Balugaes. I agree, 39km is crazy. last summer our longest day was ~34 and it just about killed my feet. I'm thinking maybe alter the stops between Fontoura and Vilanova so that I shrink that long day.

    Route opinion

I've set an intention to go on another pilgrimage in 2025. With only so many days I can take, I've put together a draft plan for the Camino Portuguese starting from Porto. I am a huge fan of port wine and do intend for my first 2 full days to be full of wine and emersive activities with the...

Where to stay in O Cebreiro

This past July we stayed at Casa Navarro. Walked into the bar and secured a room with 2 beds and a private bathroom. 50 or so euros. We ate at Casa Carolo, warm and inviting atmosphere

Getting from Madrid Airport to Leon

Last July I took the train. Walked through airport to metro and then caught train out of Chatamorin (speel check me). I booked "first class" so that I had a big comfy seat. We arrived around 9am and the train left a few hours later. Very easy and low stress. Bob Note from the Mod: Since...

Not Too Hot with Little Rain

I walked in July 2023. For the 2 weeks we walked I think we had one day over 80 degrees. There were a few days where it was 50 in the AM and no higher than 75 at peak time. Unusual I would thinks, since it was 106 on the day we departed Madrid

    Dad & Daughter(s)...Lessons Learned?

I walked with my 19 year old son in July, Astorga to SdC. I was given great advice from this forum on allowing him to have independence, should he want it. By day 3, we were walking separately. We would pick a town to meet at and then decide final stopping point fie the night, then walk...

    Private rooms availability?

Lots of great input from the members. One site I used, but haven't seen mentioned is Godesalco.com. www.godesalco.com/plan/Frances. You pick the starting/end point and the next screen gives details and distances, aka you choose where to stop. I used this for planning, and then let the camino...

    Framed Compostela

Hello forum friends, I had searched historical threadsa and found a few on framed compostelas. I wanted to share what I had done at Michael's, here in the US. The individual, David, that helped me helped with determine that side by side would create less "white space" on the frame, and then...

Business ideas? - Just for fun!

I would open a brewery similar to ones we have here in Richmond, VA USA -> from pilsners to stouts and even juicy/fruit based IPAs. Get a stamp in your pilgrim passport and get a 6oz pour on the house - I think the tour operators who are getting stamps for their 20+ bus riders might have a...

Where can I find prayer opportunities on my way?

I found it overwhelming, but greatly miss now, the ability to find "prayer" in every part of the Camino. Inside the churches with creaking kneelers, or along the trail where all you hear is your footsteps crunching on the crushed stone. I prayed my rosary and said prayers of thanks, gratitude...

Walking the Camino with Gilbert syndrome 👨‍⚕️

I too have been told I have Gilbert. For me, my bilirubin and chloresterol work in opposite. Thus, I came back from my camino and my bilirubin was under 1, hasn't been that low in 15 years. My chloresterol, however, was 236. The highest in my 48 years. If possible, choose to eat more...

    Family "Vacation" Ideas

Thanks for the responses. They weren't happy because we were off "enjoying" ourselves while they dealt with house things and nowhere to go - their choice. I think they realized that the walk was what I needed and they do support me going again, but maybe not realizing I'd like to go this...
