Start in Pamplona
With rain can come blisters with soggy wet socks
You won’t be seeing much with the fog
Both Ways (ValCarloss and Napoleon) are very hard.
Amazing, yes, in clear weather
Wonderful
There will be other caminos!
The walk out of Pamplona and up to alto perdon is very special
Recalling a few more recently—Rabinal del Camino and Just spoke with a pilgrim —pack and reservation at molinaseca parochial municipal
And of course Valcarloss, Roncesvalles, Burgos
Most not some
Every municipal I have stayed in has accepted luggage. I’ve seen it on arrival (and reservations)
Hornillos del Camino
Sanbol (I walked with this person)
Riego de Ambros
Castrojeriz
To name a few…whether stipulated or not
I’m on the CF and I appear to be in the minority:not planning with pre booking and carrying my own backpack. After a day of heavy rain, I Stopped at noon in a newer albergue and thankfully have a bed. Reception floor area was covered with large suitcases and shiny backpacks. It’s not a...
I stayed with the lovely nuns (Augustine order) over a week ago. There was singing outside. I cried.
There is a good kitchen area and washing room. Bunks in dorm rooms and not segregated. Blankets if needed.
It was busy, but I managed to sleep ok….departing with the early rustle
Hola
Thanks for the detailed information and passionate prose
I’m nearing the end of varying caminos and my euro is on the wane. Regarding accommodation on the invierno is 10-15 euro range. possible?
I have consulted with Gronze but not sure which municipal albergues are in function. Thank you
Yes, we share with good faith.
Splashing money around..hmmm…hardly…the prices have risen. Fact. money is the currency that fuels the Camino hospitality infrastructure. It’s needed. I don’t wish to be frugal or stingy. We all make choices and perhaps many have saved a long time for this...
Absolutely costs have risen steeply!
I loaded my travel cards well before I left as this is what pilgrims/travelers/hikers were saying..,
I’m not sure I’ll be back on the pilgrimage trails for some years, so I’m enjoying —greatly—the moments here. It is also very busy and not always possible...
I’m live on the Camino
Yep, prices are up from my last (seven years ago)
My budget is dormitory and pilgrim menu. Cafe con leche a few times each day (WC!)
Apccommadion is rarely under ten euros
15 on average
Sometimes a charge for blankets
A day may look like this
Albergue—14
Cena—14...
Yes, it all sounds somewhat embellished for further drama; and in the spirit of, Big Brother...
Thou shalt not eat nor drink!
Humans are wired to be free.
This is the essence of pilgrimage. Many willingly jump on an illogical bandwagon to follow, obey and bow down to more rules and restrictions...
I support what Phoenix recommended. Silicone earplugs are not so expensive and can be bought in pharmacies in Spain. I am a light sleeper and I find them essential (snoring, plastic bag rustling, and toilet door banging). I also have tinnitus.
In one (desperate) situation, I have used gobs of...
All seems so uncertain. Still.
Even vaccinated, there is no guarantee.
I have read about cases where vaccinated people have contracted the virus. I have read that you can still be a "carrier" even though you have had the vaccine (plus boosters). There seem to be ongoing shots required.
I am...
Warning Bert, this is a vague post with nebulous specifics.
I recall a cemetery on the way to Finisterre. It was run down and the flowers were dry, wilting and sad looking. I can see it in my mind's eye. It was a stage of the Camino where I was desperate for water and spied a tap in the...
Wooo...that is the hand of fate, right there! A chef's hand, of course.
I am impressed that Julia could condense the convoluted history of Saint James, the significance of the scallop, and the Way itself in one minute. She was one impressive lady. But did Julia Child actually walk the Camino de...
May it be so! But yes, no guarantees at this point in time. I was refunded a travel voucher--valid for two years. I hope to use this sooner rather than later!! Buen Camino
