In 2006 when i did my camino, there were around 107000 pilgrims and 2016 not counting December over 270000. I am actually shocked about the growth in numbers and i can imagine the mad run for beds at the albergues.
I was in Ligonde in 2006 and 2007, it was a wonderful place and was great to stay there. Before Ligonde we stayed in Portomarin, would skip Portomarin and head straight to Ligonde next time
Top Albergue.
My walking gear
Rub petroleum jelly on your feet. Coolmax liners, woollen socks. Goretex ankel lengte shoes and gaiters and finally water proof breathable pants.
Shoes must be well walked in before the camino.
never had bruised feet. Tired yes but no bruises or wet even in the torrential...
I would prefer Goretex shoes. And gaiters . Way better than plastic over your shoes. Plastic doesnot breath. And you will be wet inside.
I know goretex shoes are a bit expensive. But good walking gear is a must for walking the camino. That has been my experience in walking the camino.
Cheers

Hallo all
We planned a walking pilgrimage in Sept and fortunately we couldnot make it, that's why we are planning a visit to SdC via A Coruna.
Have been looking at booking.com , Eurobookings.com and other related sites for accomodation for the period in beginning Oct. I am now trying to find...
Hallo all
I am going to cognac for a couple of days next weekend for the festival of cognac. And i have been reading that Cognac is on the camino de Santiago route. Can anyone help me to find out where the paths cross, so i could walk a couple of kms. Unfortunately my plan of walking the camino...
A cunning and dangerous plan indeed. Maybe take a colleague along , if you miss a step , there;s your colleague to help you out. But then again , if you want to be alone, doesnot help with a colleague hanging around.
Thanks,
I will plan a week to Galicia in the year 2010 either fly or drive (the camino will be crowded.)
And hopefully get to experience it
Cheers

We did the camino from Leon to SdC in March. We did see a bit of snow in Foncebaddon but the days were warm and it was great. Less people, relaxed walking.
Ocebreiro was a bit misty though. We had in all, half a day of rain. great time. But as others say, Weather is a bit tricky to predict...
Well , am not sure about following a guide book along the way. We have noticed people following the guide book to the letter and this makes the albergues full in where the group moves with the book in hand.
Its good to read but not following it to the letter.
