Looking for Florida "Camino addicts" who miss walking to join weekend hikes

My husband walked the Camino Francés in 2011 and the Camino Portugués in 2013. Looking to walking from Rome in the near future. If you get a walk going, please let me know.

    Other Long Distance Trails

Eric, My husband and I walked Hadrian's Wall Path from West to East in 2013 and loved it!. Take the time to read the information panels and stop at at least one fort. Doing so will enhance the experience and give you a better understanding of what life was like for the Romans almost 2000 years...

Pilgrim Songs, Chants de Pèlerins and things curious

While walking the Camino in 2011, these three pilgrims delighted us with this skit. Hope you enjoy it. .

Thinking about the caminho Portuguese? Concerned about starting in Lisbon? Read on.....

I walked the Caminho Portugués from Lisboa in 2013 and wish I had heard of the pick&drop network. There were long stretches without hostels, but my husband and I found reasonably priced rooms and inns. Since then, I have heard that there are more hostels available. After walking the 400+ miles...

    A contrarians view on packing

I have an Osprey 32, and loved the pack. If I had a larger pack, I might carry more things that I don't really need. As it is, I carry more than necessary. I cannot limit myself to only two pairs of socks, but have two pairs of light, med, and heavy socks, switching as needed. Since my husband...

Camino signs: do they happen to anyone else?

The Camino taught me many lessons. I learned to look for signs (the shell and arrow) everywhere. I also understood that these signs were figurative and that I had to watch for signs to help me steer my life. Recently, I felt I was no longer on my path in life. I started looking for the signs...

    Growth on Caminho Portugues

Albertinho, Nice to learn about the added accommodations....the stages in the 2013 guidebook were much further apart. Not having to walk in the industrial sites is a boon.

    Growth on Caminho Portugues

My husband and I walked the Camino Portugués from Lisboa in 2013. It is a long stretch to Porto--there are few hostels and fewer pilgrims. (Until Porto, we only met 5 or 6 pilgrims.) The way is well-marked, but there are long sections of industrial walking and few hostels. The good news is that...

Only back 1 day and my heart is still there.

I returned from my first Camino in 2011, and my heart is still there. Hardly a day goes by without my thinking about the Camino—it made such an impression.

    Albergues where Hospitality Reigns Supreme

I have fond memories of three albergues, all as the result of hospitality. The first was already mentioned, San Juan Bautista in Grañon. The hospitaleras were from Italy and they were very helpful and accommodating. The dinning/sitting room had a piano and other musical instruments available for...

Are 60 to 70 km per day cycling achievable? Logrono to Astorga

This should be a fun trip. Don't forget a bell for the bike. I've seen too many people get startled when a biker yells out, and then they jump into the way of the bike. Even with the bell, walkers can be contemplative, talkative, or simple unaware of the meaning of the bells.

    Camping

Scott, my husband and I camped several times on the Camino and loved it. We stayed at the Monastery grounds in Roncesvalles, at Camping Urrobi in Espinal/Aurizberri, in the courtyard of Albergue Padres Reparadores in Puente la Reina/Gares, campground La Playa in Logroño, at a campground in...

A road paved with scallop shells must surely be a sign?

When I need a sign, I usually find one...its just a matter of being tuned-in. The shelled road is a sign that you cannot pass up. Pack your bags and go. While there, look for other signs...you may be surprised where they take you.

    Walking in late September 2014

September and October are wonderful times to walk the Camino. There are many festivals, such as the wine festival in Logroño, the chestnut festival, and more. These are fun to attend, but may make it difficult to find a room. If you plan to stay in a town that is celebrating a fiesta, I suggest...

Weather in Early September (on the camino Frances)

In 2011, I walked the Camino in Sept and Oct. In early September, the weather was warm. By the end of Sept I was wearing fleece in the mornings, at least until the sun rose to take the chill out of the air. I am very sensitive to the cold. My husband, on the other hand, did not bother with the...

    'Tent' or No 'Tent'

In our 2011 and 2013 Caminos we carried a tent. In 2013, we also carried a camp stove and fuel. If you train, you body will adjust to the weight. In 2011 we used the tent on the albergue grounds and in camping grounds and I was glad we did. It provided us with privacy, clean air, and an...

    IBS on the camino

I have suffered from IBS for more than 30 years. Though every person is different, I had no problems walking the Camino. Drink plenty of water to prevent dehydration. Avoid the foods you would avoid at home, and have a good time. I found the Spanish diet, the exercise, the reduced stress, and...
