Hello there,
On 29th March I'm planning on walking down from Lisbon to Aljezur but can't decide whether to go via Santiago do Cacem and the inland route or to go via Sines and down the coastal route, which way are you guys going?
Why don't you walk North on the Camino from Faro to Salir on the Via Algarviana. From there you follow the VA via Alte, Messines, Silves, Monchique and Marmelete to Aljezur and the RV. The VA is a great walk with reasonable accommodation.
OK, just so that henrythedog can stop counting backwards, I've been carrying my tent, sleeping bag and air mattress in my backpack as cabin baggage between Tasmania, UK, Spain and Portugal (over 10 trips) over the past 10 years with no problems. The packed tent weighs 1.5Kg and measures 46cms...
I did the Algarve Way in 2014 from Alcoutim to Silves, then from Silves to Vila do Bispo(the last town before Cabo de Sao Vicente, the Cabo is not a town but only a lighthouse, you have to get the one bus a day out of there to Sagres) in 2017. There are some difficult sections, Cachopo to...

Hi Sheesh,
It was a 4 bed compartment, top bunk and bottom bunk either side and a small sink at the end, not much room in the compartment but bunks very comfy and bedding supplied and everything spotless.
Yes, booked on the RENFE site: https://venta.renfe.com/vol/inicioCompra.do, if you want it...
I did the overnight train(Trenhotel) from Santiago to Madrid in Nov 2011, it left at 22.03 and arrived at 08.05 the next day and cost Eur31.30 - booked online 2 months in advance. You have a glass of wine in the buffet car then go to bed and wake up in time for a cafe con leche before arriving...
Hiya Fellow Plodders! Just to let you know that I've finally put up my journals on a blog just in case there might be some info of interest to those about to walk. Also info on my walks from southernmost part of Spain(Tarifa) to Sevilla and from northernmost part of Spain(Estaca de Bares) to El...
Hiya Scruffy, got this too late to comply with your request, but did note the shrine.
Portuguese was no problem as I speak it quite fluently due to having been married to a Brazillian "lady"-(bad memories!) many years ago.
Rick :x
Hey K-Fun
Don't worry about Portuguese, Spanish will get you by. You can view my journal of the walk here

As to maps and guides, I made a word document from various sources to carry with me, I'd be glad to share it with you, it's too big to upload here but I could...
