    Shoes, Sandals and ?

Have not seen mentioned anywhere this lightweight option for second shoes- dance shoes! I bought a pair of Capezio "Dansneaker" for second shoes. Men's pair, size 8 1/2= 333g/11 3/4 oz. Worked great. Thanks, wife, for the suggestion! (I'm a troglodyte- barefoot in the showers. Entire camino, no...

    Suggestions for Wide Hiking Shoes?

Oops- my mistake! The brand is Chippewa "Apache" (not Cherokee!). Good boots.

    best backpack for carry-on

The only thing I took was an Ospry Porter 46 and a small MountainSmith that I used as a daypack and/or chestpack. Never checked either. The ospry was plenty fine for hiking, too.

Does the TSA allow trekking poles as "carry on" baggage?

Us too. From USA to France and back from Spain, no checked baggage and poles (Black Diamond Ultra Distance Z0Pole Trekking Poles) folded in carry-on. Also, some places don't allow poles into the rooms, so we always folded and stashed before we checked in. Never a problem. It's true, though, that...

Starting a new Altus poncho thread

We bought the Altus on the recommendation of the forum. Have also done sections of the Camino with an umbrella and a back-up poncho from Stephenson's Warmlite (http://warmlite.com/poncho-rain-gear). Love the Altus but Galacia was a non-stop downpour, (often sideways) and I started to question...

Travel pants that don't look like travel pants

RailRiders. Wore a khaki pair hiking, a black pair not hiking (while khaki ones were drying). Lightweight, easy hand wash, easy dry, comfortable. And yes- I still wear them, even at work.

    Suggestions for Wide Hiking Shoes?

I wear a 8 1/2 3e and got a good fit with Cherokee "Apache" 6" laceups. I recommend them. Wore them LePuy to Santiago, no blisters. Back home, they are my favorite shoes for daily wear and cheaper than Redwings ( which go up to width "H"!).

    Hiking Shoes, or Hiking Boots?

Wife and I walked LePuy to Santiago last year. We are both runners and backpackers. She wore Vasque "Wasatch" molded sole hiking boots, I wore Chippewa Apache 6" leather boots with a Goodyear welt. Won't tell you what to choose but will give some observations: 1) You will pass many places where...

Lepere guide la via Turonensis, 2011 edition review

Purchased this as a guidebook to walk Notre Dame Paris to Notre Dame Chartres August 2011. We have hiked the Le Puy to Figeac section of SJ de C using the Miam Miam, ffrandonnée topoguide and Confraternity of St. James guides. While not facile in French, we are sufficiently capable to usually...
