“Breathing in, I calm body and mind. Breathing out, I smile. Dwelling in the present moment I know this is the only moment.”
― Thích Nhất Hạnh, Being Peace
:) and for the record :) i love! polypropylene hiking gear that dries within an hour of being washed instead of soggy cotton, love the lightweight materials we now have, sleep sacs instead of sleeping bags, compression sacs, Aleve - o thank you for Aleve!... but then i also prefer the organic...
i am prepared to be falsely accused of being a Luddite :) but one of the questions i ask myself when i consider what products to use is, 'For how long have we been living very well without it?' how long have we be walking the camino without apps listing every albergue, every 200m rise and fall...
We are shaped by our thoughts; we become what we think.
When the mind is pure, joy follows like a shadow that never leaves.
The Dharmapada
in the case of the pilgrim walking west your shadow will lead, not follow! let this joyful excitement you're experiencing accompany your journey.
maybe it could be dedicated to pilgrims for certain periods of the year, then opened up to 'air b'nb', as suggested above, to keep some money coming in. people work in different ways but considering the seclusion it would make a nice artist/writer's retreat space... and i don't know how large it...
yes! haha
and the sound of the shorn hay as dew evaporates causing the stalks to shift and crackle! i, personally and with great relish, will never take a step on the camino with ear-phones - :)
hahaha - alas, the music of the trail. can't speak to this issue as the pack's not in front of me but i did have a similar experience once. out of the blue! loud knocking from deep inside my pack! ?? unpacked, repacked, began walking... knock knock knock... over and over again. i was just...
one aspect of my first pilgrimage that i truly enjoyed, continue to enjoy, and which can never really happen again is that i. didn't. know. squat! hahah :)
8 days... 000... Muxia - Finisterre - Santiago?
backtrack 6-7 days down the camino portugues and see where that puts you.
you have the opportunity to make every step meaningful!
walk well :)
i have wonderful memories from Bar a Galería in Finisterre... wide windows overlooking the harbor below, and inside... inside was a beautiful mix of pilgrims comprised of those i met along the camino frances, those i only met recently on the camino to finisterre but bonded with immediately...
i carried a smaller switchblade with no trouble. however i was stopped in the train station in Madrid - must have passed through radar somewhere - because apparantly it looked like a 'mariposa' - the word means 'butterfly' but the weapon is a double-bladed knife and security just wanted to make...
well, you left august 8th, it's now the 22nd... you're officially a pro! you tell us what you've learned about your body/torso length/where to distribute weight/and accessibility habits! :) if you do read this however - wrap your credencial and journal well in plastic bags - even if they're...
in france there are two 'sundays' when the majority of shops are closed... sunday and monday. by saturday night i always furnished myself with extras... extra dried fruit/nuts/a little extra dry cheese/small sausage/a little extra fresh fruit for monday and tuesday breakfast. and i always...
i'm a firm believer in learning the bare minimum of: greetings, valedictions and the ability to say 'excuse me, i don't speak ( )'... it's basic civility as a guest in another country. (and as a pilgrim needing direction from time to time, learning left, right, straight, and corner wouldn't...
greetings,
i'm a train-as-i-go pilgrim.
a little bottle of Aleve doesn't hurt, or weigh much. other analgesics don't do it for me. Aleve works really well for muscle pain
have a wonderful time
to be honest, Coelho's The Pilgrimage did not resonate with me. if one wants to bring a book to dwell upon i'd suggest his Manuel of the Warrior of Light - its light 150 pages are full of all the joy, doubt, and awe which arises while walking and so lends itself to contemplation.
purely subjective... however, after experiencing both options for a while and reading how people predominantly favor the bottom bunk - if you feel neutral about it it might be nice sensitivity to carry with you and offer your lower bunk if feel someone might benefit from it.
in Viana, the...
