    Selfies with Saint James

There IS a sign stating photos are not allowed at the statue. Hugging the statue is not part of the sign. Some people respect rules, some don't. It's the lack of respect that irritates me...and when I see graffiti or littering on the Camino.

Not just sad now... Very sad.....

Lee...God bless you and your family, now and always. I'm sure your Mum will be with you in spirit, and your Dad will be sending all the positivity you'll need! Buen Camino, brother pilgrim. You've already begun... ((hugs from Spain))

How do people 60-and-over plan their Camino?

I hope to...I may do stages now that I have moved to Spain and have closer access :)

    Soreness with backpack

Was going to say the same!

any moments of "what the heck am I doing here" ?

Yes...the first 2 days were difficult from SJPP. It was raining, windy and cold. I had jet-lag, had trained in Dallas which is flat. For a week, right about 3pm, I fantasized about taking a train, bus, hitch-hiking - any way I could go the next day to perhaps the Meseta, as it would be easier...

Pilgrim Etiquette - LIVE from the Camino

There are some who think their "stuff" doesn't stink. It does! Taking care of your "stuff" and the tp involved is the responsible thing to do! Unfortunately, those who actually live on the caminos (or volunteers) go out and clean up the litter after we're gone so it doesn't end up being one...

    How much past Pamplona

I totally agree with you, Getting There...wondering if perhaps some people walk the fabulous Way blindfolded or perhaps just blinded by the beauty! hahaha

    BackPack Flight Covers

Thanks for bringing up dog tags! I had two made. One for my pack which had my name and telephone number and one that I wore around my neck with my name and an emergency contact person in the U.S. & their phone # in case I became incapacitated somehow.

    Altus Ponchos

My Altus was clammy within minutes of walking. The ventilation is terrible, in my experience. I've thought of removing the elastic at the wrists and adding a snap so I'm able to open and close it as need arises. It was dripping wet in the sleeves and felt awful. It did keep my pack dry, however :).

    BackPack Flight Covers

I bought a nylon laundry bag with s drawstring, measured it to the size of my backpack, took it to seamstress who cut it off and double-stitched it. Before I left for Spain, I sprayed the inside and out with permethrin (anti-bed bug spray). It folded up into an extremely small and lightweight...

    Starting 12/13th September 15

Remember that your journey began the moment when you decided to walk the Camino, so Pilgrim, you've already begun. :). For me, my excitement overruled any nerves I felt once I got on the place. Then I had to remember that, as is anything in life, it all happens one step at a time. The more I...

    Leaving in 6 days! help!

I agree with my fellow peregrinos answered above. You will have trying days, slower days, easy days, all incredible in some way! You will meet people you think you've known all your life. :) . And you'll get to know yourself better, too, 1 step at a time. Stay present to enjoy each moment...

    Essential Oils for Bedbugs?

A recent scientific study on bed bugs said the oils work only if you're trying to make the bed bugs smell better as they bite you.

    Finisterre Saved Our Camino

I thought I was ready for the loud, excited, new pilgrims who entered at Sarria. I'd been warned. At first I was cranky and intolerant because I'd started in SJPP and had a lot of time to find my rhythm and appreciated the lovely solace I'd grown to love. At first I thought maybe I'd stare them...

    Blister Prevention and Foot Care

Hi! I love my Lowa boots, too. Are you slathering your feet with Glide, wearing wool liners (they don't make your feet hotter, btw, but wick sweat) under a wool or wool with some synthetic socks? Are your boots large enough? You might consider replacing the insert if they are too worn in. I...

    Clothing in September

You will most likely run into rain - sooner or later. You can either take a poncho (less weight) or take rain pants/jacket (and leave them along the Way:) The rain is unpredictable so being prepared is wise. I have an Altus poncho which is quite long and zips/buttons. The problem with it is you...

    bedbugs: a rocky road

I totally agree, Annie. I'd like to know if any of the people who posted about getting bedbugs pretreated with permethrin prior to their trips. If any of them took the 2-3 minutes to check the bed, underframe, walls around bed for bed bug black residue/blood. Did they use the blankets? I am...

    Bed bugs this year???

Be sure and go online and watch videos regarding permethrin spraying. Do it outdoors with no wind, do not spray it inside your sleeping bag, nor inside boots/shoes, nor inside your pack. Spray the outsides, though! Don't spray around cats or fish and make sure it's dry before cats "rub" on...

    Swollen hands and fingers

Trekking poles (walking sticks) really help with preventing sausage fingers. And poles help in various ways while long distance walking. There are many different situations along The Way where I was glad to have them. They are worth the investment, as far as I'm concerned. Just make sure to us...

Double check when you call your banks to inform of travel...

Perhaps her account has been hacked since she's been on the Way. That is so unfortunate to be without funds! I had no problems with my Compass Bank card, whatsoever.
