    Passport warning — expiration date

I live in Ottawa Canada. I applied for an Irish passport renewal on 25-Jul-2022 at the site dfa.ie/passportonline. The site is very user friendly. It guides you through the option of taking your own passport photo using a smart phone. The replacement passport was mailed out of Dublin on July...

    Vasque boots

I bought my first pair of Vasque boots (Breeze model) in 2012. I wore them on my only Camino in Sep 2013 (Bordeaux to Santiago). They are light weight, cool when worn with Merino socks and liner socks and mainly water proof due to Gortex uppers. I finally replaced them in 2020 with an...

A gentleman's undercarriage question regarding chafing......

What worked for me was NOK anti-chafing cream (Sports Akileine NOK). It is readily available in French pharmacies, Amazon or MEC in Canada.

    Foot product that saved us

I have found NOK cream to be the only remedy to resolve an issue with 'thigh chafing'. Maybe, this is a problem restricted to male pilgrims but it can be a show stopper if not treated in some way.

I want to start Frances a couple of days before St Jean. Any advice?

I started from Bordeaux on 17 Sep 2013. Got off the train from Paris and started walking South. The first albergue is at the Prieure de Cayac in Gradignan - a suburb of Bordeaux about 10 km from the St Jean train station. The next 8 days are through the forested Les Landes - very flat and...

    Vaseline...or Vicks VapoRub?

NOK cream is also amazingly effective in treating groin chafing. It is also available in Canada at MEC

    Dublin to La Puy

Another option. Why not walk from Lyon. Its about 130 km which is probably a 5 day walk. I am planning a Le Puy to Santiago walk and find the idea of taking the first step from the train station exhilarating . My first Camino in 2013 started at the train station in Bordeaux after a flight...

    Walking from Bordeaux

Well done. After days in Les Landes you will be entering the foothills of the Pyrennes after Dax with finally some elevation to lift your spirits. You should be in great shape to tackle that first day over the Pyrennes after St Jean. When I walked this route in September 2013 there were only...

    Ireland to Logrono best route

Picking up the Vézelay route after Tours

I started from Bordeaux in September 2013 and took 10 days to reach St Jean on the way to Santiago. I used the inland route first stopping at Gradignan in the southern suburbs of Bordeaux, then Barp, Belien-Bebliet, Moustey, Labouheyre, Onesse-Laharie, Taller, Dax,Cagnotte, Arancon, St Palais...

    Monasteries for Pilgrims

I stayed at the Franciscan Monastery (Les Franciscains) on 27-Sep-2013. It was very pleasant. But it was no longer a Franciscan Monastery but a pilgrimage centre run by Les Amis du Chemin de Saint-Jacques. A very courteous older Belgian couple acting as volunteers were on duty that time...

Pilgrims Statistics for 2013 - growth doubles!

Disappointed to see that my starting point of Bordeaux (Burdeos) in September 2013 did not appear in your statistics for 2013. I received my Compostela on 31-Oct-2013 and did produce my credincial that documented my first night in the Cayac Priory in the Gradignam suburb - a 10 km walk from the...

    Vasque Hiking Boots

I bought a Vasque light hiking boot (Gortex lined) in April 2013 from MEC in Canada for my Sep/Oct 2013 Camino walk of 1200km. The boots performed perfectly. Even during a few days of 25 Celsius temperatures, my feet stayed cool and comfortable. The high uppers give excellent ankle support...

    Bordeaux to SJPDP

I took the bus back to Bordeaux from Santiago on 02-Nov-2013. The bus unceremoniously dumps you at a roundabout about 6 minutes from the train station around 2:30 am. It was a cold chilly night. Trudging to the train station it was a big disappointment to find it locked for the night. So, I...

    Dax to SJPdP accommodation issue

I stayed in Saint Paul les Dax (24-Sep-2013). Next night in Cagnotte followed by Arancou, St Palais and from there to St Jean. I had started from Bordeaux on 17-Sep. The scenery after Dax was such a welcome change after the long flat stretches in Les Landes. All these gites were municipal or...

    Favorite Sello?

Here is mine from a private albergue in the small hilltop village of Zirauki. It was designed by the owner who also serves an incredible meatballs and spaghetti meal. Thank you to kerryman Tom for guiding us there for a memorable evening in October 2013

    Planning a first Camino walk

Hi I am a 65 year old Irish-Canadian (Foxford, Co Mayo, now Ottawa) and hope to walk the Camino sometime in 2013 as a first retirement project. I am just starting the planning and am a little overwhelmed by the amount of information available on-line. My introduction to the Camino was Robert...
