Why does no one mention the Camonho Portuguese Interior when considering Portugal? Tough and utterly beautiful and remote and you need GPS but so much better than the other options. Or the Fatima trail? I know, Spanish, but just want to plug alternate routes in Portugal.
Always lose weight, then gain it back. I am turning 70 next year and like you plan to lose and keep off 12 pounds I gain and lose. But slowly. Right now planning to walk Via Podiensis to Santiago next year.
I suggest you look into Palestinian -supported groups like Siraj Center that offer walks. I was going to go on their Nativity Walk a while back - Nazareth to Bethlehem in the West Bank, staying with families. Support Palestinian groups.
I used a purple rain skirt last camino (the CPI - very isolated tough walk) and the macabi on the Frances. The macabi was so practical -- never seemed to require washing (!) - but it was so ugly, I hoisted btw my legs (one of its features) which was better. But I gave it away after that. I loved...
I used a Packa on my Camino Frances and it was super light -- it only rained 3 days. Only problem was once I got it off, it was so thin and wet, it was hard to get back on again. Also doesn't change to a rain jacket. But I LOVED it and I am getting another since I also bring an ultralight...
I walked the CPI in 2017 in early Aug/September. It wasn’t just inconsistent marking at that point; it was deserted. For 8 days til the border, where I met up with a Camino friend, I was alone on the paths and in the albergues.
I am planning to walk from Girona to Montserrat this June, coming down from the Via Podiensis because I am following the black madonnas instead of st jaume (Lyon, Le Puy, Rocamadour, Tolouse, Olot, Montserrat). I have downloaded much discussion on this route, but -- are the waymarkings the...
I am coming in late here to ask a different question -- can I get from the Camino Aragones to the Camino Ignaciano? I really want to focus on female-centered spirituality, so Marian churches (Monserrat is one end-point) and figured that the Ignaciano would be a good way to get me there (and I...
It really was quite a hike the first day out of Almargem and the hardest part was after lunch. I used Wikiloc all the way (I was alone most of the way) and there were various routes that were helpful. I stayed in one hotel that was all stone and gorgeous and worth it. I can give you more info...
Reading this with memories of my walk in Aug-Sept 2017. Not much has changed -- except someone started painting blue arrows over the yellow at various points, I think it was a prankster.
So glad you are doing this! I walked the CPI in 2017 and some of the way was harrowing and not possible without Wikilocs. Aurelio Simones helped me with the stages til I got into Spain.
I walked Fatima to Tomar last September. It was a long walk through deserted scrub brush, about 34 km. I only saw one biciclyst. I had just walked the CPI and was still tired out when I got to Tomar. The arrows were quite good until you reached the Roman aqueduct and (last part of the walk) on...
On the CPI I got to Lamego during the "Our Lady of the Milk" festival. It was quite beautiful. The CPI late August-Sept at harvest season was absolutely gorgeous, especially the first 8 days through the Duoro. Lonely, (the only person on the trail and in alburges when there were those) and...
I walked the Camino Portuguese Interior last year (2017) and plan to walk the full Camino Torres to Santiago starting May 2019. The first 10 days of CPI were lonely and tough -- I was literally the only person walking on the route and in the alburgues until I met up with new Camino friend Anna...
Yes, I can say that Aurelio has already been extremely helpful! I've been canvassing everyone who posted on the Forum about CPI since I'd like to walk it in late August - Sept. Didn't know at the time that it is the hotest time to walk it. I do hope that someone creates a guide for the route...
Yes, it's the challenge that I want to take on, kinda like I have to do it. :) Can I ask, did you have a EU sim card? I read another post where the person got lost a few days in a row and had to follow N2. He said there was no one around at all, so he had to figure it out by himself. That's a...
