I only read this post Dave Bugg in the hope that you would reply. And you did.... you took the hook. It is always great to see your responses. And of course you answered the question. I hope you are well.
And I am so happy to have this forum to keep memories alive. I do not think I will walk another Camino now, but can still live it vicariously through the forum.
And it is boring walking in your home territory if it is for training. On the Camino every corner you turn offers something new. That is the wonder and beauty of it. I very much doubt you will get bored walking. The movement of feet and legs is not the Camino. The people, culture and vistas are...
I am in the latter group. I had never hiked or trekked. I did daily hikes on the beach and up the local hill and that is it.
The day I left home with my pack all sorted my husband said...put on your pack. My reply was no...... if I do I probably won't go! A family joke now. But guess what... I...
That is a wonderful story. I remember your early posts when the whole family including your dad walked the Camino. And now you have a daughter getting married. How quickly time passes.
We were caught up in the tsunami too. We live in Mangawhai and had neighbours from the low side across the road...
I live in NZ, the home of Icebreaker and love it dearly, but I stopped buying the pure merino because it kept developing holes at the wear points. I complained to them about it and they said to buy the blend which they developed after so many complaints. It is just as nice to wear and does not...
And all this fabulous information is the reason I felt so upset when you said you were leaving this forum and stopping your camino a year or two back. You are a wealth of knowledge. Thank you.
I went to see it here in NZ and to be honest it was very disappointing. It was about grief rather than the Camino. And it was so disappointing to hear all the comments afterwards and people saying "well, there is no way I would do that. You would have to be mad." I wanted to shout out that the...
I switched to contact lenses with each eye set at a different rate...one for reading and one for normal wear and it was the perfect solution. And I did this especially for walking the camino because I find it so hard wearing glasses in the rain. And I suspect you can do the same with the lenses...
Davebugg I wish I had known you were in NZ. We live on the route of the Te Araroa. You are something of a hero in our house and have learned so much from you.
Sounds like a good solution. Apparently the postal service in Italy is hugely expensive. I was quoted about €40 just to have a credential posted to NZ.
I want to acknowledge the wonderful people on this forum who are frequent contributors and such wonderful guides. I cannot name them all but when I see a post by Annie Santiago, Dave Bugg, Bradypus and the list goes on and on, it makes my heart sing. You have taught me so much and made my...
Hi Annie. Four years ago I had a lumpectomy at the end of January followed by a month of radiotherapy in March. My husband and I left for the Camino at the end of April. I had limitations at the beginning because I was so unfit and had trouble carrying my pack....not because of pain but because...
