I am really doing this AGAIN...

Every year I say that is enough and every March I decide to go again. Why always in the Spring? Onrushing dementia? Anyway - I am off on Thursday. At least this time I am mixing it up and doing a French route. So, for Le Puy, I am going to grab a train from the Gare de Lyon and get a direct...

SO here is my not very well thought out plan...

I leave here on the 14th (of this month) , arriving in Paris on the 15th and taking the TGV to Pau. I had planned to hang out with my friends in Buzy for the weekend and then take a train into SJPP on the 18th and walking on the 19th. But I had an email from said friends saying that they are...

    Camino arse

We did have a thread about this but I cannot remember its title. But we were talking about chafing in the groin area...remember? I mentioned this to a friend and she recommended this stuff: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000FKLKXQ/?tag=casaivar02-20 If you read the comments men say it is great...

    Sticks, planes and perambulation

I bought an excellent pair of walking sticks in Pamplona on my first Camino and they really saved the day. I named them Poncho and Lefty. They were not telescopic so they did not slip or slide and they held up very well. They cost about 100 euro so I created a box at the airport, wrapped them up...

Women and personal safety on the Camino

I am really surprised that the thread started by a woman who was concerned about a man in a Mercedes had such a condemning response and so much haranguing about laws in Spain about which side of the road to walk on. So I just want to say a thing or two about (and to) women walking the Camino -...

    Buzy to Irun...?

Would it be possible for me to walk straight from Buzy to Irun? Is there any route that I can take straight out of Buzy?

    Janus to Venus...?

Just after I returned home from my Camino in 2012 I saw a documentary on The Camino that said that long before St. James lived and died the Romans required people in newly acquired lands to make a pilgrimage to Rome in order to become true citizens of Rome. As that was really difficult for the...

    Scarpa boots...

Last night I was putting mink oil on my boots and discovered that they are in pretty bad shape. The sole is separating from the boot on both in a couple of places, and there is a good tear in the ankle area of one. I sort of had a moment of panic and got online and started looking for a new...

Things I wish I'd known before my first Camino...

In no particular order: Getting to SJPP isn't as hard or as scary as I thought. Finding an albuergue isn't hard or scary either. Getting the credencial and having it stamped is not difficult AT ALL. Get a decent dry bag that is easy to get into to keep it in. Keep your actual passport handy...

    Peregrinas, make up, toiletries...

On my first camino I had EVERYTHING I could possibly need. I had tinted moisturizer and blush and mascara and shampoo and conditioner and lotion and blah blah. Had to send my super heavy pack ahead. There were other peregrinas wearing full face make up every day - hair coifed and nails done. I...

Give me my scallop-shell of quiet

I came across this poem while reading a Kate Atkinson novel last night. SIR WALTER RALEIGH (?) in Daiphantus, 1604 ; written about 1603. THE PASSIONATE MAN'S PILGRIMAGE. GIVE me my scallop-shell of quiet, My staff of faith to walk upon, My scrip of joy, immortal diet...

    How long?

I have about a month to walk - but I could extend that if I want. It took me 5 weeks to walk the Frances, but I like to take my time and spend an extra night or two in certain places. So, if I decide to walk the VDP, how long does the average peregrino need to do the whole thing at a leisurely pace?

    Help me decide, please!

Walked the Camino Frances in 2012. This year I am going to visit friends in the French Pyrennees for one month, from April 10 - May 10. So, starting May 10 I can do any Camino I like for 5 weeks. I was sort of planning to do Le Puy - but the more I think about it the more I think I would miss...

Mother and son on Camino in April - May ...help?

Hi - My 25 year old son and I are going to walk from SJPP to SDC this Spring. I am very excited and very nervous. I will be getting us both ready, equipment and travel arrangement-wise and I am not the best packer/organizer. But I have been reading these forums avidly, and am determined to get...
