    Advice for Restaurant Dinners

Consider the gites that offer the demi pension. We enjoyed some really good dinners during our time on that route. They weren’t all outstanding but many were (loved those cheese courses). It was true French home cooking. It also takes the angst out of trying to find a good restaurant.

    Reserve early to avoid disappointment!

(Ed) When we did this route we booked it one day at a time. Many times we asked our current host to call ahead for us. A number of them knew each other so it was like an underground railroad. When we didn’t have them call, we would go to the Officine de Turisme and ask them to call for us. We...

    Coimbra to Santiago

There is no train to Fatima from the airport and no train from Fatima to Coimbra.. We took an Uber from the airport to Fatima last April and walked to Coimbra. You can get a bus to either. And you can walk from the airport to the train/bus station from the airport or take the metro. @jungleboy...

    The TBT, trans Bhutan trail

That was one hard hike, but so rewarding. We had perfect weather and learned so much about Bhutan and it helped I had read a couple of books and learned a bit of language. We were required to have a guide and he was good, but that is the one thing that left us feeling a bit "confined" (lack of...

    Camino De Sabbatical

I had run half and full marathons before I walked my first camino from Leon to Santiago with a 12 pound pack. The running experience is very helpful. You know about shoes and how they effective they can be, and I have only walked in trail runners on the many long distance walks I have done and...

    No tech!!!

In 2012 on our first Camino we took our daughter’s iPod touch because our adult children said we were being irresponsible. We got a blog and at night we would write our day’s memories and if we had internet then we would post it. So they would know we were “ok”. We didn’t alway have an...

    Rota das Carmelitas

The signs are very nice. They have a special symbol on them. One hard place is through some logging area. I would suggest a taxi or bus from Coimbra to the archeological site, the walk to of Coimbra is not great. We walked it backwards..but you can check our blog...

New albergue (inside a bandstand!) in Vila Meã

We ate our picnic lunch under the “bandstand” last month. There is a bar/cafe just across the street. We had an espresso and the gentleman running the place asked if we needed a place for the night. So perhaps he runs the place. He was very friendly. We did not stay as it was early, but it’s...

    The TBT, trans Bhutan trail

All is falling in place. We have our visa for Bhutan and a start day of October 18. We will only walk for two weeks. Airline tickets purchased. The transit visa through India can only be submitted 30 day before leaving. I have had to do some work on my end to organize our travel plans. But our...

LIVE from the Camino Caminho do Mar Lisbon-Fátima — May 2023

We were in Sintra a couple of weeks ago and the local bus info on line is uncertain. Our hotel receptionist said it is a new company in Sintra (we saw the same line in Lisbon). We got the bus to where we wanted to be...but they definitely did not come as scheduled. We waited over an hour one...

    Caminho da Raia General Discussion

We saw the camino shell markers in Elvas last week. And the construction of the rail way that looks far from being done. We were in évora and wanted to see Elvas so we took a day trip, super interesting places to see. In fact they have been putting up those nice new markers--seems like every...
