You might want to consider the monchilla services, they will transport you pack / luggage for you. Carry a small day pack with water and food. Leave from Sarria and do short distances each day. You're still going to cover some rough ground, but it might be doable!
Don' forget to consider, that there is some rough terrain in between. Might be better of starting in Sarria and enjoying yourself, instead of rushing. I started in Ponferrada and have been taking my time. I'm enjoying it tremendously. I only wish, I weren't lugging this CPAP machine along.
I'm carrying his (Brierley) guide with me. Planning to use it to travel to Finesterre after Santiago. Figure it's better to be prepared than not. I like the maps that he has in his books. Gives me an idea of what I'm in for.
I hope you come back and try again! If you choose not to that's OK too. Each persons road in life is different. It took me 20 years to get here. ( Camino de Frances). I'm amazed that people lectured you on how they think you should do your journey, amazing. I hope you make a quick recovery.
I'm doing the Frances right now. I'm in Sarria as I write this. I have enjoyed the journey so far. I started in Ponferrada. This is my only Camino, but I would recommend the Frances. There is just the right amount of support along the way.
