    Prevent Blisters on Camino

I walked the Via Frances in 2013… entire distance with nary a blister. Rotated Smart Wool socks every 2 hours and applied Body Glide to my feet every day before starting to walk. I’m pretty sure that the Body Glide was the reason for no blisters

How to get a Compostela without the crazy 100 k

Unique Replies to 'Buen Camino': Personalizing the Traditional Greeting

I saw Ultreia written a few times on my way years ago. I knew the word as Ultreya! (Onward) from the Cursillo movement. The Cursillo movement was birthed on the Camino back in the 1940s and many references refer back to the Camino.

    No Blisters!!

I used Body Glide on my feet, Salomon shoes that "breathed" (recommended because they would dry fast in rainy weather -- and they did!) and Smartwool socks, changed every 2 hours. Not a blister the entire way. I'm thinking the Body Glide (from my days as a distance runner) did the trick..

OBSOLETE COVID THREAD Latest Covid requirements for EU

Curious about the Booster. I will travel to Europe (this time not for Camino -- but I hope to do that again soon) in May. I got a booster (Pfizer) back in early October. Some folks in the US got boosters even earlier. US has not authorized a 2nd booster yet. By June I'll likely be past the 270...

    Let's talk waist packs!

When I walked 8 years ago, I used a waist pack -- something from my marathon training days. It was large enough to hold my phone, credential, cash, bank card. Not much more. I would easily hide under a shirt as well. But, when I get to walk again, I'll be bringing it along for sure. And, I did...

    OBSOLETE COVID THREAD International Irony

To be able to hold conflicting views at the same time is a sign of spiritual development -- non-dual thinking. 😇 I say good for you! I'm not travelling outside the US this year at at -- hope to be able to walk again before I'm too old.

    What's your earliest Camino connection?

I picked up a copy of the Utne Reader back in the late 80's or early 90's and there was an article by someone who had walked the Way of St. James. I was fascinated, but nearly 40 with 3 children and a full time job I thought I would never get to do it... only took about 20-25 years to get there...

Gareth from Dublin on Camino yesterday.

Doesn't surprise me. I have a friend/coworker who lives in Bilbao within a few meters of the Norte who just lost his father with COVID. Be safe.

How to Get back home from St-Jacques ?

I fly in to CDG on Sept 25; my plan is to get to Montparnasse station and get the train to Bayonne from that station. I know I can get to Montparnasse or very close on a train from the airport -- that I've done many times; And I hope that 35 days will be adequate to make it from St Jean to...

    Walking in Oct 2013.

I'm Beth: Landing in Paris on Sept 25 also, and starting out from SJPdP on the 27th, but planning to go the distance to Roncesvalles. There will be 2 of us, and I have a green gregory pack -- perhaps we will see other. Considering the schedule, we might run in to each other before St. Jean.

    What Route?

SY -- after reading your post, I am glad we picked CF -- starting out from SJ on Sept 27.

    Just bought tickets

From the US: Will be a day or 2 ahead -- starting out on Sept 27 from SJPdP -- teal green Gregory pack thus far with no badges, flags or any other distinguishing markers.

Things you couldnt have done without on the Camino

Walking in late Sept and October -- I will surely take the Glide with me! (I run distance, and have thought this wonderful product might be just the ticket -- good to have confirmation). Now, to find those good ear plugs!

St Jean to Santiago seen by an atheist

Thanks Bjorn for the lovely images. I will be walking this Sept/October and have been debating about taking my small, non-SLR camera. You just sold me on taking it along. Not sure that I view this as a religious pilgrimage myself, I only know that it is what I need to do...

    Camino Frances... October 11th

Leaving SJPdP on Sept. 27 -- hoping to be finishing by Nov. 1 -- so perhaps we will overlap somewhere on the way... I'm sure I'll walk it a bit more slowly than you (my youngest child is older than you are!)

Just returned from the Camino....Advice to others 60+ years

Re: Just returned from the Camino....Advice to others 60+ years I am 60 and will set out on my first Camino September 27. Thanks for the inspiration. Not sure why I am doing this, only know that I am supposed to do it. Is that faith? Is that hope? Is it just listening? Not sure what to expect...
