September 11 I left SJDP and had warm walking weather which notably cooled off in late Sept and rained ( as usual)😀 in Santiago in October. Harvest festivals were in full swing as I travelled along the route which made for great times in Pamplona, etc and lots of lovely juicy grapes on the vine
Yes all the other accommodation was booked as well. While we were on the porch in the restaurant down the hill, quite a few people walked past after trying unsuccessfully to get a bed..by this stage the albergue was really busting at the seams.
The restaurant was packed that night as it was the...
I did exactly the same route and while there were many less pilgrims, staying at the new Albergue in Rubias - the only one for miles - it was full to three times capacity, and even had people in the courtyard and this was late September.
Enjoyed it mostly but found some of the facilities few and...
I have commented to people about this also. Having completed the Frances once, I am planning to return, but this time stay in the out of the way Albergue's rather than the page by page Brierley option I tended to stick to, initially in the first couple of weeks.
(This is only natural though...
If I did it again I would walk all the way up the coast. I found the walk from Villa do Conde to Rates a bit of a slog and a fair bit of road walking and through the industrial area outside Villa.
Very hard to get lost going to Villa as you keep the coast on your left:) The Brierley guide came...
I did Porto to Santiago in 10 days in September and found the first day out of Porto, starting at the Matsinhos bridge - after getting the metro to the second last stop (Mercado), then across the bridge and left all the
way up the coast to Villa do Conde. a lovely day - but with most coast...
I enjoyed the Brierley guide on both the Camino Frances in 2012 and the Portuguese in 2013 but halfway thorough the Frances I started to stay beyond the recommended guide stops at smaller Albergue's and found
this to be a good move. I didn't rely on the Portuguese guide as much as I only stayed...
If you want a bit of luxury for only 29€, I am staying 3.4 km past redondela at a stunning hotel/restaurant called hotel Anton. The hosts are lovely and the rooms have spectacular views from high up above the Ria de Vigo. When you get to the fonts after crossing the N550, watch for the sign at...
Currently staying at the wine hostel which is quite central with a lovely park out front and large cosy common room. 4 or 6 bed dorms are spacious with lockers and ensuite. Good bars and food all around staff very helpful and port tastings and events nightly. Guided walking tour is also good to...
In. Porto now and a balmy 30 degrees at 11pm! Beautiful city and ready to head off Sunday. Recognised some pilgrims heading out along the river on the coastal route as I was wandering back into town and gave them a Bom Camino. A couple of German girls and a guy doing it on his bike. I might get...
I miss it a lot. So much that in Santiago last year I vowed to return to do another. One year to the day i will be doing the Camino Portuguese then the Camino Ingles this September. The year has gone so fast and with
only a few days until I leave for Portugal the excitment is starting to build...
Thanks for the great suggestions. No car as this is mainly a Camino experience but with so many great things to do and see I find that this Camino will only be a third of the total time in Portugal/Spain.
I am hoping to get the Ingles in as well after the Portuguese but can't miss the Duoro...
Well, just 4 days to go until I land in Lisbon for a week's sightseeing then up to Porto to start the Portuguese.
First day up the coast then to the inland route joining up at Rates. I will be getting the train/bus from Lisbon to Coimbra for a day visit then on to Porto.
Can anyone recommend...
