How do these stages sound? Tui to Santiago

When my wife and I walked this route (starting at Porto), we followed the itinerary you outlined except in order to shorten the last day into Santiago, we continued past Padron another 6-1/2 km to A Esclavitude. We spent the night there at a small hotel, Hotel Casa Grande de Capellania, which...

    Sim card

Rick, my wife and I just got new Verizon (US carrier) iPhones, and the basic account is on the eSIM (or virtual SIM as it's also called). There is also a slot for a physical SIM that could be used for a "traveling" card for use in other countries.

A Spanish Mystery: Is a ‘Masked Restorer’ to Blame for a Church’s Botched Repair?

As one who noted the inability to read the article without a subscription, I'd like to thank the Times subscriber who shared the unlocked article. ¡Muchas gracias!

A Spanish Mystery: Is a ‘Masked Restorer’ to Blame for a Church’s Botched Repair?

@Anniesantiago I would love to read articles like this, but I am unwilling to pay for a subscription just to read an article or two a month that someone links. I wish the big-time media would allow non-subscribers to read a limited number of articles per month for free. Many smaller newspapers...

Recommendations for Foot Glide to Prevent Blisters During Camino Walk

Ditto on the Gold Bond Friction Defense -- two Caminos, zero blisters. It's readily available at Amazon, Walmart, and most pharmacies in US and probably in other countries as well. I also wore Smartwool socks and L'eggs ankle highs borrowed from my wife's dresser drawer as liners.

    Handmade Credential

Since the recording of passport information is required at places of lodging, including albergues, a "professional" pilgrim might have a hard time explaining why the name on the passport was not the same as the name on the credential. However, that requirement does not apply for sellos obtained...

    An "unofficial" Pilgrim Passport?

I saw someone stamping a whole stack of passports at one of those freestanding, self-service passport kiosks between Sarria and Santiago. It didn't dawn on me til later that he might have been a tour guide or some kind of group leader.

    An "unofficial" Pilgrim Passport?

Your profile doesn't indicate where you live, but if in the U.S., the American Pilgrims on the Camino is the recognized national confraternity. As such, APOC issues approved credentials on their website at https://americanpilgrims.org/request-a-credential/. Be sure to read all the instructions...

    Best of Rome photo album

Thanks for sharing the photos and the article, Nick. I've only had time for a cursory look at both right now, but of bookmarked them for a more leisurely and comprehensive look at a later time.

May 2022 Camino Portugues - Porto starting at the Senda Litoral to Central

My wife and I walked that same route in 2017, and if we weren't staying in municipal albergues, we just called ahead to private accommodations early in the day for that night's reservation. We never had a problem with that, and there are lodging flyers posted on walls, utility poles, etc, all...

    Sign at entrance to Santiago

It is the "Me" generation, after all. Look at me...I was here. Very childish and disrespectful of someone else's property, either public or private.

    Don’t underestimate cold in Pyrenees

I know this is a weather thread, but since the reserve cash issue has been raised, I just wanted to remind folks that many U.S. Banks (and probably Canadian banks, etc.) offer currency exchange services, as does AAA. Be forewarned, however, that it may take a few days since some of those banks...

    R.I.P. Gene McCullough

Well-known Camino personage Gene McCullough passed away as a result of a bicycle accident on September 5th in his hometown of Denver, Colorado. Below is the memorial announcement from the Colorado Front Range Chapter of the American Pilgrims on the Camino. A celebration of life held in...

Backpack Advice: Fairview 40 vs. Aura 50

Assuming the basic dimensions of the larger backpack are within the airlines' carry-on limits, but by the time you get all your gear packed in the pack will be too overstuffed to squeeze into the overhead bin, take along a small, lightweight daypack which can be folded into itself. Remove some...

What to leave out - Camino Frances

I may have missed it, but is your three-week time frame three weeks' walking time or three weeks' door-to-door? At the very least, you should allow a couple of days at each end of whatever section or sections you choose to walk. Also, if done in sections, the travel time between sections will...

    e-Biking traject SJPP/Pamplona or Irun/Pamplona

That's good to know. I just wasn't sure.

    e-Biking traject SJPP/Pamplona or Irun/Pamplona

Are you sure that e-bikes are recognized on the Camino, or more specifically, at least for the last 200km (that's the requirement for bicyclists as opposed to 100m for walking)? I don't know, but I'd advise you to check with the Pilgrims Office before going too far down this road.

    Carabiners or “S” hook?

Be aware that those binder clips may rust and stain your clothing. Been there, done that.

    Carabiners or “S” hook?

I agree with you, @BROWNCOUNTRYBOB. Note that I did not suggest using them for hanging washed clothing on an outdoor line, but they work well for socks that may not have fully dried from yesterday's wash or from crossing a stream. As for the clips/clothes pins/clothes pegs, we tried the small...
