Conflicted about going, plane leaves Friday?

Sagely advice from salt of the earth people. Thank you all for that. It was not about bunks. Clearly. Today I walked to Valcarlos Spain. St. Jean was lovely... The valley was amazing loved every second. 3 of us at the albuerge municipal. Glad I am here. Best.

Conflicted about going, plane leaves Friday?

Greetings I have been conflicted about going for a while and not necessarily looking forward to it. What is finally proving to be the tipping point is the thought of being a 50 something, somewhat arthritic, portly fella ending up arriving later than most and being on the top bunk... getting...

    Bug bites

Sorry to hear that... guessing everything resolved. Good that you shared these stories with folks so they have the awareness. Thanks.

    Bug bites

Yes the bugs drive us nuts, but Hep A and B are much bigger health risks. Two vaccine injections, initial and a booster at three months can provide immunity, on of which is spread through food, especially ice.

    Urgent footwear question

One thing you can try is a thick (hiking) pair of merino wool socks. I use them and recently switched to new shoes with zero blisters. I am speaking of a brand that is particularly good, pricey though. I paid $39 CDN I believe. I have three pair. A colleague in Search & Rescue also uses them...

    Bug bites

The number of bites could suggest noseeums? No seeums are an almost invisible fly that bite often 10 or more places. They can cause a huge welt and reaction. I am not personally aware of wether they have them in that area, however, if you had 50 plus on one leg that would probably suggest an...

    Packing Pacer Poles Air Travel

Hi Pacer pole Users. Mine arrived a short time ago. Due to the angled handle and 5" width at that end , I am having a very hard time finding a shipping tube to pack them in. Do you think it is okay to ship them in the flimsy mesh bag they come in. Any recommendations or things that have worked...

    Sleep sac

When it comes to the wine, "I would rather have a bottle in front of me than frontal labotomy" WCF. Funny there are all these corkscrews lying around but no plugs for the sinks? Here is a link to a bag that has gotten great reviews locally from pilgrims. One side has no fill the other has...

    Good,Professional walking poles.

Hi. I have an inflammatory arthritic condition (psoriatic) that has also affected my ankle joints. Apart from the pain there I have little foot power when walking and my foot is not flat. Even hitting a rock and having to twist my foot is painful, and it can be hard to push away from. So I am...

A few gear questions (sticks, bag, weights)

This bag has a warmer and cooler side 15-22 degrees Celsius. No idea what that is on the English system. https://www.mec.ca/en/product/5034-985/Intrepid-Traveller-15-22C-Sleeping-Bag Suerte

    First Blister

Blisters are oddly enough often more about shear that build up in the tissues of the dura and below and then the rubbing between your skin and the shoe. And new shoes or changed activity level can increase both. This thread points to a guide for the steps to reduce the shear...

What is the one luxury or non-essential item you would bring with you?

I think the jury is in. I will have to pack Mascara and some lipstick. ANd my beard trimmer of course. Having said that you will probably be able to regonize me en route!;)

What is the one luxury or non-essential item you would bring with you?

For me a beard trimmer, rechargeable. About 250 gm (small). With the sweating all day shaving would result in raw or rashly skin. With a trimmer, I won't walk out the far end looking like Santa Claus either nor will I have to go through the itchy beard growing phase while hiking. P.S. This...

Smart Packing and Unexpected Backpack Items

For all intents and purposes, the best thread I have read on the forum. No over-engineering, simple logical and uber useful. Thanks. Based on my travels, earplugs... Huge. After 10 days in Spain with a snoring friend and no sleep I ended up run down and got a nasty chest infection and fever.
