Comment by 'zakosdad' in media '"Beyond The Way" Trailer'

I disagree with the comment that you have to wake before sunrise and walk into the night. That is not at all what we experienced in 2013 when we walked. Why make it sound so dreadful? We walked at sunrise so we could see the path clearly before us and never walked past 4:30 PM - Yes it had its...

Did anyone regret walking the Camino?

Expect nothing - be open to everything - Buen Camino

Did anyone regret walking the Camino?

Our only regret is that we started in Pamplona and not at St Jean. Three days after we finish in October 2013 both of us said we wanted to return and do the entire Camino. Unfortunately life got in the way and now with recent total hip surgery our return looks less likely. But who knows, I'm...

Starting CF from Pamplona 28/08 - feeling a bit scared

You should be fine but don't be naive and put yourself in any uncomfortable situations. There will be lots of opportunities to walk with others and you don't have to ask. Buen Camino

    Flat tire on bicycle

Best idea is to carry a spare with you in addition to a tire patch kit. My wife use to get so many flats I was able to pull and replace tire in 7 minutes flat:)

How much should your donation be ?

I would personally give a minimum of €20 possibly more depending on the moment. On our Camino we stayed in one donativo and knowing that it was church run, not supported by a municipality and not a private for profit - I felt I should pay more knowing full well that "some" would walk for free or...

Voltaren cream ....is it worth it?

In Spain you can get both Voltaren and Ibuprofen topical gels. They are both NSAIDs - non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Ibuprofen gel is not available in the States. Just as with oral drugs, different people will have different results. Voltaren gel in the States requires an Rx and is very...

Not just sad now... Very sad.....

Sorry for your loss. My mother has been gone for 34 years now - but everyday I feel she is still with me. When I walked the Camino in 2013 I brought along some of my older brother's cremains and my twin brother's cremains so they could "walk" the Camino with me. When I got to Finestere I tossed...

    Sole Survivor

Wife and I 20 minutes a mile at home definitely slower on the CF. We used Patagonia AC Drifters and walked about 380 miles.. At the end the soles looked as good as new. They have Vibram soles. With training total miles 500+ and good for many more.

Post-arrest news in the case of Denise Thiem

Agree - we feel that something should be done to remember Denise - not just shells but perhaps something more permanent and significant to remember her and all peregrinos who have suffered similar fate

To pole or not to pole that is the question?

YES! - I would describe many parts of the CF as "rolling terrain" meaning the numerous rocks & boulders want to roll underfoot and cause hikers to lose balance. Trekking poles help reduce the weight of your backpack and act as balancing sticks when walking on uneven terrain and especially...

Pilgrim Etiquette - LIVE from the Camino

If I can see your biodegradable TP - it has not degraded enough :) There are plenty of off trails to do your business - as one female member mentioned in another thread - your undies will be full of sweat anyhow so why the bother to wipe - you will be washing them at the end of the day - right...

    medical insurance

Most trip insurance policies cover multiple facets of the trip i.e. the flight, the hotels, the luggage, trip delay & cancellation, medical insurance, emergency evacuation, etc. If you do not need to be reimbursed for your flight and hotels you can deduct that cost - then the insurance becomes...

    private rooms in albergues

Brenda if you are starting from SJJP you should meet a lot of other people who are also beginning their Camino - you can group up at that point assuming that you walk at the same rate and are willing to be part of a "group". Altough you may start with others - since it is an informal group -...

    Keeping this invaluable forum alive

Ivar thanks for this forum and for your package service in Santiago. It was a real pleasure for Arlene and me to meet you last September. Keep up the good work.

    What percentage receive a Compostela?

We picked up our compostelas the day we finished - spent the next day in the hospital trying to get an x-ray for an injured finger - went to Finisterre - then attended the Pilgrim Mass - so no we did not hear our names or countries identified - but that was not the point - it made no difference...
