What issues arise when walking with a companion?

I heard people talk about this a lot along the Camino. The thought is that if you go with a friend you end up losing your friend. If you make a friend along the way you have a friend for life. I did meet many people who after coming with a friend were walking alone after realising it was too...

    rough cost estimate

I finished the Camino on September 30th. It came out that I averaged 48€ a day. I am not sure why I spent more than "average". I cooked some meals but most of the time I did have the pilgrim meals. I had a private room a few times. I did not put myself on a budget so that might have been a...

Does your dog deserve a Compostela??

I was around for this but thought he was refused the Compostella. I had seen him with his wife along the way and they were very nice. I am shocked that he thought he should get one for their dog. Who would think that that would be acceptable?

Singing/Songs sung along the Camino Francis

I actually got through "a hundred bottles of beer on the wall" for the first time in my life

    nervous wreck

The monistary albergue was closed two nights ago in Samos due to bugs. While it should be opened ahain soon you might want to make a reservation there for a private albergue. I have been on the Camino for 35 days now and have always found a place to sleep without having to walk into another...

Packing..do i really need a sleeping bag for October

Hi, I am currently on the Camino, in Samos. I brought a liner as I am a very warm sleeper. However, in Leon I had to buy a sleeping bag. Two times prior to being in Leon I froze at night. One albergue did not have blankets the other albergue had them but a couple of women from Germany took them...

Alert Accident today involving Pilgrims at Santa Irene

What is surprising is that this does not happen more often. The cars on the camino do not slow down. In the villages they drive very aggressively. They seem to have no regard for the pilgrims walking. It gets worst on dirt roads when they race past you spurting out dust and stones.

If Yogi Berra Had Walked The Camino He Might Have Said...

I don't know why the earlier pilgrims didn't make it easier for themselves and just walk on the N120

    Instant answers/gratification

Seriously? What does it matter to you. If you don't like the question just pass by it. Where is the spirit of the Camino? If I bump into you on the walk and you need help is it OK to walk by letting you know that I already helped someone and look for them? Sent from my SPH-L710 using Camino de...

    Gender differences walking the Caminos

I will give my packing list via PM to anyone that would like it. I am not taking a sleeping bag or pad. Just the bear minimum. I am always too hot so I am not taking much for cold days, everything can be layered. I also started packing months ago and keep looking at what can be removed or...

    Publicly humiliated for snoring

I can snore, it is dependent upon certain situations. I am bringing 20 earplugs so if someone forgot theirs I can pass them a pair. Sent from my SPH-L710 using Camino de Santiago Forum mobile app

    Gender differences walking the Caminos

David, Thanks for your post. Women and men are created different in body. And this should be addressed as it is often overlooked. I will be starting my camino in 24 days and my pack is just 7 percent of my body weight. While studies show men to have the body strength women do have an...

Women sun hats - what not to wear

Thank you for the replies. My cowboy hat is very pliable so it does roll up and fits in the bag. I feel better about wearing it on the Camino as I have always worn cowboy hats in the Colorado sun and it will allow me to bring a bit of home with me. Sent from my SPH-L710 using Camino de...

    How About Work?

At 30 I decided that I would work 80 hours a week for 20 years instead of 40 hours a week for 40 years. So I turned 50 and retired. This did have it's consequences, which makes my upcoming Camino even more important. Sent from my SPH-L710 using Camino de Santiago Forum mobile app

You know you're a pilgrim(or soon to be) when...

When your backpack is ready and you still have two more months until you leave (August 20). You keep checking the bag to be certain that everything is the lightest possible. And wonder if you have OCD, because you keep looking at it. Sent from my SPH-L710 using Camino de Santiago Forum mobile app

Women sun hats - what not to wear

What do you think about a cowboy hat On a lady? Being from Colorado we use these a lot. But it may be weird on the Camino. Sent from my SPH-L710 using Camino de Santiago Forum mobile app

    Class of 2013

Hello, my name is Brigitte Klaib and I am planning on leaving SJPdP in September. I am from Manitou Springs, Colorado. I have started my training, but not nearly ready. I hope that I will have the discipline to be in great shape before I start or my walk may take me two months  My...
