It has been a while since I walked the Camino, but getting bags transported daily seemed like a good solution for some people. For instance, I walked part way with a lady who had hip replacements and degenerative disc disease so she carried a day pack and had her bags transported to her next...
I don't think this is a very considerate thing to say, especially when EVERYONE get "old"!! But what is "old"? It is a relative thing, but someday you....PG3.....will be forty, or fifty or seventy (if you are fortunate) and your expectations of behaviour may be decidedly different than they...
In the event you do get bitten, tea tree oil will take care of the itch until the spots go away. You can purchase it in a Spanish pharmacy but it's not cheap. Buen Camino (without bed bugs)!!
Hi Sharon! I'm also a Canadian pilgrim (PEI) and I walked the CF to celebrate my 50th; as I was walking it, I said to myself "I needed a better reason!" but I think ten days will be perfect. It will be a challenge at that time of the year but weather will be nothing you haven't seen here at...
John.......you really sound like you know what you are doing, so please don't take this question as criticism, I just really want to know the answer.......is there a limit to the amount of time we Canadians can stay in Europe without returning home? It sounds like you are going to be there for a...
The first thing I thought of, Douglas, was "man plans and God (or your chosen deity) laughs." When I did my Camino, which was a while ago, my fellow traveller did most of the research while I was just along for the ride. She sent me websites to look at, stories to read, etc. and so I was well...
There will be days (more than two) where you will cry out "what the h-e-double hockey sticks" am I doing here? I could be home on my couch/sofa/chesterfield reading my book/IPad/newspaper will no sore knees/hips/ankles? Have I lost my bloody mind? But then something really nice will happen...
As willydp noted, you could write down your feelings from that moment.......and when you eventually do the Camino Frances, that could be your "rock" that you leave at the Cruz de Fero! It is a tradition to bring a rock from home and leave it at the Cruz, with the idea of leaving your troubles...
In my experience........and the little buggers did like me......they are hard to avoid. If they go for you, they go for you. To treat the itch, have some tea tree oil. The folks running the albergue will know what to do with you and your stuff. It's early in the season, so don't worry...
If you do get bitten by the little buggers (I have) I found that tea tree oil is a great solution. The bites don't go away any sooner but the itch does and you won't scratch yourself and make things worse. Believe me, I feel for you! :)
MaWinMex, at the risk of being a Nosy Nellie, how are you doing? Has your health improved? Dare we hope that you are up and running....or at least walking......the Camino? If not, Best Wishes for a speedy recovery. :):)
I truly appreciate stories like this from the front lines in Spain. Living on the other side of the pond, it is difficult to have an awareness of local Spanish politics, religion and how things work. I find it both enlightening and amusing and I am often struck by how much we are the same, not...
Heather......I saw this in The Guardian today, too, and felt so sad even tho I didn't know Dr. Goodwin either. As a fellow pilgrim and fellow Islander, I would appreciate you bringing condolences from The Forum to the family. Thank you.
Carry on with your original, Patch. Before you start next year, reviewing your steps from this year will help you recall the Camino joy and you will certainly continue in good form! Buen Camino!
