Here's what the Goethe-Institut in Madrid says about the quotation:
They heard about it for the first time a few years ago when a Spanish professor found it translating an Austrian book. He did not find the author of the quotation.
So the Goethe-Institut started a worldwide investigation...
The Association of Friends of the Camino de Sevilla / Vía de la Plata has announced that 1600 walkers have reached Santiago on this route during this year. Their share of all pilgrims is still low (1,4%) but it doubles from year to year, as it says in the Voz de Galicia...
What do you think about Ryanair? They don't fulfill their contract (cancelling flights in winter) but don't have to worry about legal action because Santiago depends on them in the future. It appears they get paid between four and six Euro a passenger. Which means that at least there's no direct...
Thank you, Peter,
I've just sent a mail to the Jakobus-Gesellschaft.
How could I read into Dante what he had never said? Superficial reading of mutilated quotations might have been the cause. :D
The Goethe quotation cannot be found in any of the texts on von-goethe.net. I've scanned them all.
I've written to some of those who have the quotation on their web pages. None of them could tell me the source of it. I'll try the Goethe-University in Frankfurt/Main and the...
For all of you getting close to Ponferrada or those who have a chance to go there this might be interesting.
Today's Correo Gallego talks about an exhibition of 300 objects of various centuries beeing displayed in the basílica de la Encina and in St. Andrew's church (iglesia de San Andrés). Juan...
Hello vinotinto,
sounds like you had a "queimada".
It's fairly well described at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queimada.
They even have the spell that goes with it in Galician with an English translation.
Hello,
from what I read in today's Voz de Galicia it hasn't yet been decided whether it's the historic camino francés that's affected. It appears to depend upon the findings of a team of archaeologists and they haven't finished their studies yet.
I'm sure many a pilgrim or tourist has entered the cathedral with sensations similar to Joseph's. It is an important topic. I'd just like to add one remark for now concerning the flora on the Apostle's cathedral.
The Spanish travel guide "Santiago de Compostela" from the series "Ciudades con...
Hello,
I've read the book by Kerkeling and I don't recommend it.
It's a pilgrim's diary of which about 90% seem boring to me. No deep insights, no profound reflections, not funny (he insists on beeing a comedian). On top of that there are large descriptions of how he came to success as a...
On my visit to the cathedral last week I noticed that the Statue of Santiago Matamoros made by José Gambino, which is located in a niche close to the chapel of St. Catherine in the left transept, is halfway covered by flowers.
The result is that the beaten Moors at the lower part of the statue...
The local newspapers have been announcing since late August that "soon" work will start to restore the whole Pórtico de la Gloria. They plan to be working for three years, spending three million Euros. Which means that the Pórtico won't be visible until towords the end of the next Holy Year...
The number of passengers to and from Santiago's airport (Lavacolla) has grown to an extent that makes extending the airport necessary. Seems like the nine-hole golf course must make way for the new landing strip.
So where will golf players be swinging their clubs in the future? Right. An old...
Hi Hedda,
weather forcasting is a tough job. :)
Statistically speaking August is the hottest month with the least rainfall. And even this year's August in Galicia with less sun and more rain won't change that.
But if you really want to start in Lugo then you'll probably be walking about...
Hello Hedda,
you seem to be considering August and October. I live in Santiago and I've seen pilgrims in huge numbers in town in August. So if you like to meet a lot of people and if you don't mind crowded albergues and maybe competing for a place to sleep, that month could be your choice. But...
I've just watched the beginning of part one and it seems rather promising.
But is he right when he mentions (at about 4:45) that he will be considered a "proper pilgrim" if he does the last 50 miles on horseback? I don't know if there are any criteria to determine whether one is a "proper...
