Jakobsweg/ Via Jacobi Switzerland from Rorschach to Geneva

I know this comes to late for Henley, but here is a suggestion for a rest day more or less along the way: from Brienz take the old steam boat across the lake to Grandhotel Giessbach and enjoy a rest day at their natural pool, a gorgeous waterfall and an excellent hotel restaurant; the next day...

Whether ... weather (Switz Sept 2015)

Just returned from the Via Jacobi, and despite the heat, I had a great time walking. Especially the Einsiedeln - Lake Thun part has lots of woods and often there was a light breeze on the high plains, where there is less shade, and several times, I just did shorter distances, not only due to the...

Via Jacobi - ferry on lake Lucerne

Dear fellow pilgrims, preparing for my next pilgrimage along the Via Jacobi in Switzerland, I came across the fact, that the camino at one point crosses lake Lucerne (at Brunnen to Treib). I saw on the lake Lucerne ferry timetable that the ferry continues on to Buochs, a village on the camino...

Best guide for reading before you go/taking with you??

As a preparation, I would recommend "Priez pour nous a Compostelle" by Barret/Gurgand, but am not sure if there is an English translation. It gives you the medieval/1970s perspective. On the go, the phone app guide "Camino" by Eroski consumers (in Spanish) does not weigh a thing and is...

    For non-peregrino peregrinos!

That was the medieval tradition, as pilgrims would reportedly collect a shell on the beach in finisterra and later "proved" at home that they had done the pilgrimage to Santiago. Anyway, buen camino, uphill, downhill and on the flat land!
