https://inews.co.uk/news/world/tourists-spanish-city-face-backlash-2952834?ito=copy-link_share_article-top the last few seasons I've been walking the VdlP and if this report is only half true, it's better to travel hopefully than to arrive
The walls and ceilings of the pilgrims' accommodation at the monastery in Samos are decorated with wall paintings.
Does anyone have photos which they could kindly share?
Are the paintings old (medieval) or new?
Who is the artist?
Information welcome.

A few years ago I saw a retired(?) medic(?) on the east side of Ponferrada who was giving foot massages and treating pilgrims' blisters, etc. Does anyone else remember him? What was his name?
Some pilgrims sing, but I like to recite verse in my head as I walk, and there's one poem by Christina Rossetti (1830-94) which seems written for the Camino, though it is allegorical and I don't think she ever trod the way. Nevertheless "Uphill" is very appropriate for those of us who are...
Recently reported research at University of Leicester grouped 400,000 adults with an average age of 57 into
(a) 7% slow walkers (less than 3 mph/4.8 kph)
(b) c50% average walkers (3 to 4 mph), and
(c) c40% brisk walkers (more than 4 mph/6.4 kph)
The age-related/biological difference between (a)...
I'm hoping to squeeze in a week in the Via de la Plata before Christmas, from Fuente de Cantos (where I'd got to just as the first lockdown began) northwards. Is anyone else planning to be on the Vdlp in December or have experience of what it's like in December?
Best

Puerto de la Pedraja is in the Montes de Oca, between Belorado and San Juan de Ortega.
If memory serves me right there are two monuments there to the dead of the Spanish Civil War - does anyone please have phots of these or copies of the inscriptions on these?
Thank you
Peter
Plastic bottles are the commonest item of litter on the Camino - could we all make a resolution to carry a durable bottle and to refill this on the way? For those with delicate stomachs, Brita even make a heavy-duty but lightweight (139g) bottle with a filter in the cap and it's made in Spain...
I've suffered from a torn meniscus for many years and most recently arthritis in my left knee.
It hasn't ever stopped me walking the Camino and last year when I volunteered at a hostel I walked there to get myself into the right frame of mind. I only have to be careful going downhill or over...
I am beginning to suffer from arthritis which affects my big toes and my ankles. Sometimes the pain can be excruciating, and I find the best thing is to walk this off when, after about 5miles/8kms and I have warmed up, the pain is tolerable.
Is there another cure?
I have tried external...
I have only ever had three pairs of walking boots in 50 years of walking/climbing/peregrination, and they have always been proper ankle-high, ‘leather’ boots. The first pair (I do not remember the manufacturer) had screw-on commando soles and I used these for 20 years until the inner-soles...
I have written, obliquely, about this before but I caught the Camino (not bed!) bug in 2007 when, on a day break from conference in Ferrol, I visited Santiago and wondered what drew so many people there. Then in 2010, when I was researching for a book by exploring the routes over the Pyrenees...
I am beginning to plan the Via de la plata in April/May 2015.
Having spent Holy week in Madrid some years ago I'd like to witness it en route - but Sevilla sounds very crowded - does anyone have
(a) suggestions for where else to spend Holy Week (or part thereof) on the Vdlp in 2015.
(b) other...
When I did my first Camino in 2011 and crossed the Pyrenees in April in snow, I remember my pack weighing in at the airport check-in, despite my self-deception about how much baggage I was carrying, at 17 kilos. Later this year I'm going back for my third Camino and hope to reach Santiago via...
