    Stonehenge - an ancient Lourdes?

This story has been largely discredited. For instance the so called amulets are nothing more than stone chippings caused by dressing the stones prior to the erection of the structure.According to other archeologists the skeletons don't prove any significance of a "holy/healing centre".They say...

Dogs to walk the camino to raise funds

Thanks Sillydoll. That makes sense. The Spanish make it extremely difficult to do long distance walking with your dog as I have found out in the past. They don't let dogs on public transport and getting a hotel to accept a dog is very difficult. There is a massive need to challenge the cruelty to...

Dogs to walk the camino to raise funds

I have just double checked the weight restriction and it is actually just six kilos not seven.Furthermore the dog must be in a carrier with provision to clean out the carrier whilst the dog remains inside. Also the dog can only be taken aboard a train with the approval of other passengers.

Dogs to walk the camino to raise funds

As a dog owner and someone who hates the animal cruelty I have witnessed in Spain I hope that this walk is successful. However I am curious as to how the walk is to be arranged. The Spanish trains and buses refuse to accept dogs over 7kilos,the refugios will not allow dogs and most hotels refuse...

    CREDENTIALS IN PORTO?

I got mine from the Cathedral in Porto.I waited until mass was finished and saw a man who seemed used to handing out the passports.

    sellos

Hi there,Yes do do have to have two or more stamps per day for the last 100kms through Galicia. There are so many people cheating now just to get the Compestellanae(certificate)that they have tightened up the rules. From next year they will be tighter again with the cathedral in Santiago being in...

    The Varieties of Camino Experiences

So its OK to say that tens of millions of people are doing things they know are wrong, from simply lying to drug taking, abuse of partners, illegality, deception, uncontrolled animalistic sex and then to describe the C of E as wishy washy. When it is pointed out that the Catholic Church also has...

Pilgrim Menu vs. Menu Del Dia (or regular menu)

Hi Vinotinto,This is obviously a topic close to your heart. The main reason I think that there is still some difference is that the Spanish economy is still behind Britain and for that matter France. For instance the average French salary is about half that of a British salary and The Spanish...

    The Varieties of Camino Experiences

If only it was as simple as training. The Magdalens were run by nuns all of them trained but it didn't stop terrible cruelty and abuse taking place. There is hardly a week goes by but that we hear of yet another priest convicted of child abuse. It is possible to train for ten years and still be as...

Pilgrim Menu vs. Menu Del Dia (or regular menu)

For places where real people eat I will take France any day.As for the cost of French wine, just go in to a supermarket in France and in Spain and compare the prices and you will discover that they are pretty much the same. The French are not daft though they keep the best wines for themselves. I...

    Scallop Shell

Hello again Arn.Yes please do stop at Manjarin even just for a drink. The books don't recommend it 'cos it's so basic but I loved it.There are no showers, the toilet had burned down because someone left a cigarette end in a bin(Tomas was going to replace it so it should be OK now),the kitchen is...

Pilgrim Menu vs. Menu Del Dia (or regular menu)

Hi Vinotinto,As I said I actually live in France but I travel a lot into Spain.I actually prefer French food in general.Having said that I do enjoy good Spanish food also.I think it is generally accepted that the French cooking is perhaps the best in the world. This goes for the basic traditional...

    Scallop Shell

Yes Arn all the shells are real as Johnny Walker confirms. If you wait until you get to Santiago you will be asked to pay stupid prices from the street vendors.I saw shells being sold there for 5euros. At my favourite Albergue of the whole Camino at Manjarin, Tomas the guy who runs the place,gave...

Pilgrim Menu vs. Menu Del Dia (or regular menu)

Hello there. For anyone walking to Santiago via France you should know that throughout France you can eat a good lunch for not much money at local restaurants.Look for the Formula which is the menu of the day.I live in La Vienne region of France and our local village bar/restaurant is typical.For...

    Scallop Shell

I picked my shell up from the beach behind the abbey on Iona and tied it to my backpack. It proved very useful in that it identified me as a pilgrim long before arriving to the Camino Frances. There are shells to be bought in many places on the route starting at the pilgrims office in St.Jean.The...

Wonderful television series about the Camino - The Naked Pil

Hi there, Yes I saw it on the television and soon after bought the DVD.I am a big fan of Brian Sewell anyway and I thoroughly enjoyed the very witty and insightful film of his travels along the route.I think anyone with an interest in the Camino Frances would get a lot out of...

    Ibuprofen

Sillydoll.Yes Traumeel is very effective and with far less chance of having side effects. The way you used it is spot on. It comes in tablet, gell and ointment forms. For aching muscles as experienced on the Camino though I would prefer the gell or ointment. This can be massaged into the specific...

    Ibuprofen

I would love a pound/euro/dollar for every patient I have treated with vinotintos cavalier attitude to prescription drugs."They are necessary, why not,I can take them,I didn't know they were so strong,I never read the packet,I wish I hadn't bothered, why me,somebody told me they were...

    Ibuprofen

It always amazes me that people take powerful drugs and medicines without understanding the nature of the substance.IBUPROFEN is a powerful anti-inflamatory drug which is very effective when used correctly. Like ALL medications it should only be used as prescribed otherwise you are playing at...
