Does anyone know of any shorter pilgrimage routes around the world?

The shortest distance yet the toughest has to be Lough Derg in Donegal. https://www.theguardian.com/world/shortcuts/2014/aug/15/-sp-toughest-pilgrimage-st-patrick-purgatory

Long pants and long sleeves in summer? Smart or big mistake?

Say No! to rubber tips on your poles.

So this explains why so many non-pole walkers have headphones on and the sound cranked up.

Getting to Spain a Problem!! Brittany Ferry Boo!

Not sure if this is real and certainly would not part with money until properly researched. https://www.holidaypirates.com/others/a-new-sustainable-ferry-service-from-dover-to-france-is-about-to-set-sail

    Wool socks

Have you looked at Bamboo socks? Sustainable, antibacterial and anti-fungal. I use the tees for longer cycling trips that may or may not include wild camping.

    Men's pants recommendation

Sorry but not Craghopper Kiwis. They are made of plastic and rustle as you walk. You wont notice at first but as the miles go by the sound gets louder and louder until your whole day is filled with the sound of your trousers rustling. Ok slight exaggeration but I can thoroughly recommend...

Focusing on transformation versus being 100% present

A zen answer to your question would be eat when you are hungry Sleep when you are tired when you sit just sit don't wobble If you are interested in applying zazen/mindfulness in your walking try this and see if it helps. https://www.lionsroar.com/how-your-mind-works/

    E bike

Some eMTBs have a walk mode where the motor will move the bike slowly at walking speed. There is a 'deadmans' lever that requires holding down so the bike will stop if released. Just remember to load all your luggage on the bike not you. I am 73 and if I had to choose eMTB or my MTB it would be...

    Entry requirements for France

Over on a cycling website I belong to there is a lot of head scratching going on about what appears to be the new entry requirements for non EU visitors entry for less than 3 months in France. https://www.service-public.fr/particuliers/vosdroits/F21921 Seems it may cost you €120 for the...

Via de la Plata in Reverse

With a little care it should be easy. My hand held gps has reverse track on it and the speed you are traveling at you would not go far wrong before you realised it. Without a gps looking back at junctions should give you a clue as to where the arrows are readable from.

Night walking on Meseta any suggestions for Gareth on Camino at moment

Maybe you can put a red filter or cellophane over a white light. Most led headtorches have a red mode. The throw of light is not large and some colours are enhanced and some disappear so if you have a head torch with red mode try it out before hand so you know what to expect. You don't want...

    The Easter Vigil denied.

I have been using https://www.churchservices.tv/walsingham There is Easter Vigil this evening 20.30 BST. I have had a look at a few of the broadcast services but personally like simplicity of Walsingham. Could almost be Cistercian. I think I know where I shall be visiting when this is all over...

    Bottoms

I changed to thick bamboo or Marino 'shreddies' to replace the traditional padded cycling shorts. The lightweight Marino boxers are for summer and the BAM ones for colder days. I found padded shorts caused rather than prevented sweat sores and BAM boxers are really good at getting rid of sweat...

    Cryptosporidium

I used a Steripen usb model for many years collecting water out in remote parts of Scotland. General advice was 'if you cant see a dead sheep upstream of you it will probably be ok'. Trouble is you never know if the Steripen is working effectively until it doesn't and you feel a bit odd waving a...

    can this be done?

What route planners have you looked at and are you riding off road on road or mixed? Had a cursory search and found komoot and OSM. I have used OSM maps on my etrex and I think they are routable in Garmin Basecamp. Dont know anything about komoot but it looks like it might help. Also have a look...

    Gaiters for winter walking

Beware rain over trousers with tapered ankles. My expensive cycle over trousers have that design and the first time I wore them in anger they kept my legs dry but channelled rain water straight into my boots.:( The choice was take them off or 'fill yer boots'. As long as your wet feet are warm...
