Theft on the Camino... a growing Concern?

Right, I think you've missed a couple of things. In no way was my initial comment in any way trolling. Unless of course your definition differs from mine. I opened the discussion with an open heart and a query to help people to 1) understand that theft on the Camino shouldn't be feared... as...

Theft on the Camino... a growing Concern?

You can't be serious... seal lion? Like it reminds me of my old Mondegreen. Instead of "our lips are sealed", I heard, "Alex the seal". 😂 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mondegreen

Theft on the Camino... a growing Concern?

Dam... I had to look that up. 😳 Here I thought that was simple projection, my bad, I'm going back to re read my dictionary for a more appropriate response 😅

Theft on the Camino... a growing Concern?

Thanks, I should've guessed. It bursts a bubble. I'm a little too grounded sometimes 😒. I know you guys do a stunningly good job, and in no way should you feel at all the need to be more careful. It's up to me to carry a money belt or bum bag should I want to stay safe. Or to quote an angry...

Theft on the Camino... a growing Concern?

Not sure. I posted about my prescription meds going missing and got a heap of denials, or comments blaming me. Maybe I should've kept my bag on me at all times 😉. Maybe someone could explain why it's a difficult subject? I guess I'm so used to supporting victims of crimes. Maybe I'm biased and...

Theft on the Camino... a growing Concern?

As I stated at the beginning this thread was meant to foster safe discussion about how to keep yourself, and other safe. And a place to express any fears or experiences. I'm sorry if you feel this is a difficult discussion that might provoke negative responses.

Theft on the Camino... a growing Concern?

I've started this thread as I've noticed many more posts relating to theft of items. I'd like to say that largely, in my experience, the Camino is safe, and free from incident. But in saying this, I also had stuff stolen from my bag in 2018. I posted a thread and faced a load of resistance at...

Caution to the wind or planning safely? Which way should we travel?

I do the same. I'm fully booked until I start the Camino. And fully booked prior to leaving. I've even left the CF route once with a friend and took to another route for the last 200km or so. So good to feel the freedom to change something that may not be fruitful.

Caution to the wind or planning safely? Which way should we travel?

Spot on Trecile, My fondest memory in 2018 was stopping at a village with a friend simply because it was nestled in a valley with a river beside. Another time we were forced forward due to lack of accommodation. We stayed in a top notch ex monastery and had a wonderful groupwork exercise with...

Caution to the wind or planning safely? Which way should we travel?

Cultivating soul for me is letting go. Accepting what happens in life and finding meaning in it. For me this means finding something good in the parts of life that take us in directions we least expect. Honouring what transpires. Sometimes this means stopping after 3 hrs in a town that looked...

Caution to the wind or planning safely? Which way should we travel?

So I've noticed a trend on the Forum that differs a tad since I did my first Camino in 2013. There are more Pilgrims planning their Camino carefully. I'd rather this not be a discussion that sets people apart, but rather an exploration on the pros and cons with each "way", or opposing...

SJPDP to Santiago in 8 days - 85km per stage

Why? My God man... haven't you seen Forrest Gump? 😁

Time to Critique my list and weights!

I can't critique... sorry. I'm trying to cope with the shame of not listing every item I have into grams onto a kick arse spreadsheet 😅. OK... Maybe you can shave the extra plastic around your licence to loose a gram 😉

What are the Do's and Don'ts of Albergue Etiquette?

The DOs and DONTs of snoring. As a general rule it works for me if I'm pondering this issue. If you're a snorer, DO get together with other snorers and pick a composer for the night. If you're not a snorer, DON'T get upset. Think of it as a free ticket to an orchestra recital.

Feedback on first Camino kit list

Sorry.., reading over the list in case I missed something. But yea, PowerBank? Like you can charge every night, and even in a cafe at lunch if needed. Kindle? Slum it ✌️ and bike shorts? Go commando when needed. 😉. There's your sleeping bag.

Feedback on first Camino kit list

Ummm... no sleeping system? (sorry if I missed something). I've done 1 early October start, and another this year planned. I ditched my sleeping liner for a sleeping bag. Yea, 700g for a lightweight bag, but dam it gets cold in certain areas around then. +1 go minimal on the electronic IMO. I'd...

Help Needed - Hospitalized in Santiago

Sorry, should've been clearer. There were multiple posts asking if the family had checked with Police or authorities, and there wasn't any significant reply. So I thought someone from the forum could assist in gaining more information, to help them. It may simply have been the stress from...

Imagine living close to Spain and being able to walk a camino whenever you like...

I recently booked a ticket from Hobart to Paris Return... $2000 AUD. And that was cheap. In 2018 I paid $1250. Ah well, sold my grandmothers wheelchair, visited the bank after hours and arranged for my pets to stay in a local beach resort. Funny, a German friend who I walked with previously...

    Dog attack in Manjarin (humour)

My dog Penny, a Border Collie, would like to comment, she demanded, so hear goes... Ruff, ruff...Roof! Roof ruff loosely translated, "I'm offended, there are no excuses"

Help Needed - Hospitalized in Santiago

Excellent idea, not wanting to put anyone out. But It does not seem like Deboyold (the family) speak great English. Its a big ask, but if someone could message a pilgrim on the ground maybe they can make some inquiries for the family, explain the situation to the appropriate authorities, and...
